Sweet on the nose, spicy up front

A little bitter and peppery.

The cigar sipper! Funky nose, but sweet and spicy, yet approachable for those who may not love rye (yet)!

Sweet, floral, fruity grain, and some light spice on the nose. Light color, thin body. Spicy ethanol burst and sour apple, then thin, astringent, and dry. Chocolate and spice finish, but the sour lingers. Flavors thin out quickly if you add water/ice. Disappointing as rye--lacks depth, oak, complexity, especially given a 100% rye masbill. More like a Canadian blending rye, not worth the premium price or the rating it received from Distiller's expert reviewer. The decidedly mixed community reviews are more telling. Later tastes... a little better, or maybe I'm getting used to it, but better mixed than neat. I'm just missing the whole WP adulation.

Nose: apples and spice. Reminds me of their 10 year rye. Palate: lots of rye on the front and a dull sweetness. Honestly that’s pretty much it. Similar to Sazerac 6 year too on the palate. Finish: a little banana and pepper on the finish. Short finish. Overall: not bad for a sample a friend gave me. I tried the 10 year and wasn’t happy for the price and I think this one is around $40 which is still a little high for the quality in my opinion.

Burns heavy up front. Nice spice, and doesn’t have that heavy “popcorn” of some rye.
