Wild Turkey Bourbon 101

Good bourbon, with notes of charred oak, a touch of butterscotch and raisins (yeah, predictable). The palate has elements of citrus and smoke that really complement the nose. The finish is a touch spicier than it should be, taking away that much desired smoothness, but the overall drink is very pleasant. Well done.

Citrus and butterscotch, and slight floral notes on the nose. Spice up front, sweetness, then bitter chocolate. A bit sharp, with a short finish. Great value. You'll need to decide whether the Rare Breed is worth the premium to this 101; to me the Rare Breed is (especially the older 108 proof batch), but many people probably would think the 101 is the better value. 2/18/17 Better this time around. Great nose, strong floral honey on the palate. Medium finish. Great value. 7/7/17 1980s 101 at Jack Rose. A little thinner than I expected, but the complexity and intensity of flavors are there. I hate it when I say that it was better in the old days, but this is good good stuff. 10/16/17 2018 bottling. Good caramel on the palate. Nice spice. Bitter chocolate at the end. Furniture polish note. A bit thin. Short finish. 11/2/18 2009 bottling. Paint thinner and cardboard on the nose, and a hint of brown sugar. Tingly. Less caramel and more bite, but less bitter, than the 2018. Seems dry. Slightly longer finish. 11/2/18

Nose - Oaky vanilla, heavy brown sugar, cinnamon sticks, hint of herbal/green oak, like a freshly cut sapling. Taste - Vanilla scented brown sugar simple, cinnamon red hot sweetness, light oak bitter, tiny bit of cherry near the end. Finish - Lingering brown sugar simple, fading cinnamon heat, lightly spicy on the tongue like the fizz after a sip of fizzy cherry coke. Score - 86/100 Final Thoughts - This is a very tasty bourbon that hits on all of the right notes. It's not overly complex with a myriad of flavors, but on the "core" bourbon flavors of vanilla, caramel/dark sugar, & cinnamon, it delivers it quite well. High enough proof to stand up in cocktails and tasty enough to sip neat, this is a fantastic bourbon for the price.
