Writers' Tears Double Oak

Color: Medium/amber Nose: Very sweet. Candy and toffee note, most likely from the single grain in the blend. Arrival: Gentle, but slowly builds up with heat from the 46% abv. Nice light fruit and oak flavor. The oak is not overbearing. Development: Melon, apricot, and pear type fruits really take flight with malt beginning to take over following. Finish: Nice balance of oak tannins and sweetness that lingers from the grain. Apple peel type flavor on the tongue about a minute into the finish. Overall: A very nice Irish whiskey to buy and enjoy. I like how the experience changes from one dram to another b/w the nose and the palate.

The nose is composed of a candied sweetness made up of anise, maraschino cherry, and the blended woods of the bourbon and cognac casks in which it has been aged. On the tongue the whiskey is sweet and spicy with notes of honey, cherry, and cask wood. Very good, though somewhat thin. It transitions early into the finish with the tannins of the cask and just the barest hint of smoke.
