Ranger Creek .36 Texas Straight Bourbon Cask Strength
Bourbon — Texas, USA
Reviewed January 31, 2021 (edited April 21, 2022)First impression....36 has a lot of cinnamon like garrison brothers. Pretty close to cowboy. I would say the .36 is cowboy lite with a little younger finish. Not quite as complex. Cowboy has better nose and maybe a little better mouth feel, a bit nuttier...also more cinnamon sugar cookie. .36 more grassy but not bad grassy. The longer I let .36 open up the better it was. If I’m looking at .36 for $94 and cowboy for $220, I’m taking .36 every time. -
Woodinville Cask Strength Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Washington, USA
Reviewed September 26, 2020 (edited February 20, 2021)Not sure why woodinville 90 proof has a rating in the low 80’s. It won gold and it’s a regular drinker for me. I blinded it with McKenna, buff trace single barrel, and another one I can’t remember off the top of my head and chose woodinville. I grabbed 4 bottles of the cask strength goody pick and I love it. A little pricey at $69 but worth it in my opinion. -
Elijah Craig 18 Year Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 28, 2020 (edited August 22, 2021)Most bourbons aged more than 12 years taste too oaky to me but this one is pretty much perfect. It’s got great depth while being very smooth at 90 proof and has a great balance of oak/tobacco/caramel/vanilla/fruit. The nose is one of the best. I bought my 18 online for $300 a couple weeks ago then got lucky and found one at goody for $150 today. Shout out to goody for not price gouging...the staff are all great and always nice when I ask for allocated bourbons (no eye rolling). Cheers! -
Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 22, 2020 (edited April 16, 2020)Lots of caramel and vanilla on nose and palate...and just the right amount of spice. Probably the best bourbon that is readily available for a decent price. I’m upgrading my score to 4.5 because I’ve had multiple bottles and none of them have disappointed.
