Deanston 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed September 23, 2023 (edited September 24, 2023)Nose : Caramel, honey, vanilla, coconut Palate : No bite, kinda thin. Palate follows the nose pretty accurately. Conclusion : This is a decent entry level offering and you could do alot worse for $40usd. I would prefer the Arran 10 for about $15usd more but this is a great value for your money.40.0 USD per Bottle -
Nose : Malty, dried fruity, slight hints of baking spice, very basic. Palate : Basically same as the nose, very red fruity but not distinctly sherry. Super smooth, not complex, kinda thin. Thoughts : For the cost of this bottle you would expect better. Almost every scotch I own (except for Aberlour 16) beats the Macallan 15 in value, flavor, nose, and mouthfeel. I Would never purchase a bottle of this for myself unless I owned a yacht and didn’t enjoy better whiskies. On a positive this is the only one of the whiskies ive given my wife that the she actually liked.

(first tasting, right after opening and letting sit in glass for 30 minutes) Nose : Initially hit with strong tropical fruit notes, pineapple, mango, etc. Coming back to it, it reminds me of a butterscotch malt from a diner. Tropical fruits, butterscotch, caramel, vanilla, barley sugar, oak. Palate : Oak, butterscotch, apple, pineapple, slight spice. Thick and velvety mouthfeel, very smooth and creamy. Overall this is probably the best value Scotch i have ever purchased. This was $75 and well worth every penny. Non chill filtered, natural color, and 46% abv add to the greatness. If you can find this for $75-$85, grab two of them. 10/10 value, 8.5/10 palate, 9/10 nose.75.0 USD per BottleWestside Liquor of Baxter

Aberlour 16 Year Double Cask Matured
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed June 25, 2023 (edited September 8, 2024)Nose : sweet red fruits, oak, vanilla, malt Palate : same as nose, smooth, creamy, and easy to drink. Overall I would spend my money on a different whisky for the current price of this. Only 40% abv, chill filtered, and color added for $120 in my area? Not a good deal. Luckily i purchased this at $70. For the current price in my area you can get many better whiskies. 3/5 stars for value to taste ratio. This is a great whisky to introduce people to scotch. Not too complex and easy to drink. -
Edradour 10 Year The Distillery Edition
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed June 25, 2023 (edited August 30, 2023)Nose : Raisin, sugared nuts, red fruits, caramel Palate: Sherry, raisin, spices, vanilla, kinda funky Overall not a super complex pour but a good sherry bomb for a decent price. At this price range I'd rather have the Bunnahabhain 12 as it is higher abv, NCF, and natural color, not to mention that it tastes better. Overall this is a good whisky but Edradour has much better offerings and for the price you may as well get Bunnahabhain.65.0 USD per BottleSurdyk's Liquor & Cheese Shop -
Nose: Similar to the 10 year but dialed up a bunch due to the abv. A bit more brine presents as well. Palate: Peat smoke hits hard right away followed by layers of orchard fruits, honey, vanilla and salt. Drinks super smooth for the proof. Oily and viscous. Long smokey Laphroaig finish. For $90 this is a great buy, haven't had the CS to compare. Alot better than the standard 10 to me 9/1090.0 USD per BottleCash Wise Liquor

Brother Justus American Single Malt
American Single Malt — Minnesota, USA
Reviewed April 23, 2023 (edited May 21, 2023)Nose : Wet dog, banana, earthy Palate : Very young tasting, banana, funk, sour notes Overall this single malt could use alot more time in the barrel. According to the bottle it is aged for less than one year and it shows. I understand that using smaller barrels ages the whisky quicker but i don't think that is a good thing. All good things take time. Too much funk for me and the wet dog notes on the nose really put me off. Love the story behind the whiskey and the distillery itself but the bottle I got is not very good. Hardly ever find myself touching this bottle.54.0 USD per BottleCash Wise Liquor -
Nose : Very strong oak hits you right off the bat, delving further in you will find caramel apple and dried fruits. Sherry. Palate : dark fruits up front, a bit of vanilla and cinnamon as you get further in. Ends with a bit of a bitter oakiness. Considering this is obe of my first Speyside's i don't have much of a reference to go off of. You can definitely taste the youth. For $40 at total wine this is a decent single malt. I prefer this to Glenfiddich 12 for example. Not something id buy again (mainly because i don't have a Total Wine near me), but overall not bad. Edit : Haven't gone back to this whisky since this review but having more experience with sherried whiskies I would say this is definitely a bottom tier offering (Chill filtered, caramel coloring, 40%abv). Not bad but not near as good as others I've had.39.99 USD per BottleTotal Wine & More
