Knob Creek 9 Year Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky , USATasted September 4, 2021Body is a light caramel with a medium to high viscosity. Nose is burnt sugar and caramel. Slight hints of oak. Mouth feel is pleasant, sticks to your tongue. Palate starts with a very little burn that leads into vanilla and honey with hints of wood and oak. Finishes with a slight burn and oaky tannins. Surprised by how easy it sips for 100 proof. Maybe my palate is just getting used to higher proofs.
Knob Creek Small Batch Bourbon (NAS)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USATasted September 4, 2021Not a fan. Light body with low viscosity. Nose of vanilla and bananas. Strong vanilla. Taste is where this falls short. Very rubbing alcohol and burn. Overpowers all other flavors. Maybe hints of baking spice and vanilla. Very oak and woody. Just tastes like rubbing alcohol.
Appleton Estate Signature Blend Rum
Gold Rum — JamaicaTasted September 2, 2021Body is a light gold color with medium to high viscosity. Nose has a slight ethanol ting to it. Notes of shortbread cookies, overripe fruit, and a touch of oak. There’s also something else in there, a funk if you will, that I can’t quite put my finger on. Light mouth feel. Initial burn punch up front that smooths out to ripe bananas, cinnamon, clove. Finishes light with a hint of cherry and oak.
Old Forester Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USATasted August 31, 2021Body is a deep amber with light legs. Nose is light, little burn. Notes of vanilla and caramel with a touch of paint thinner. Not in a bad way just that acrid acrylic smell. Light mouth feel, doesn’t really stick. Not hot considering it’s 100 proof. Nice oak up front, woodiness with no char. Leads into a bit of cinnamon and licorice.

Typical bourbon notes, vanilla and caramel with a hint of spice. Palate is smooth, only a slight burn on the back of the throat. Starts sweet with lots of vanilla and caramel. Mad River First Run Rum
Aged Rum — Vermont, USATasted August 22, 2021Body is light, no legs. Color is straw to light tan, maybe like a wet straw. Nose is ethanol forward, but if you can get past the initial sting there are hints of shortbread cookie and light caramel, but overall a pretty light nose. Mouth feel is light. A burn that coats your burn and back of your throat. Taste is a punch of burn, right in the back of your throat. That gives way to a little vanilla, baking spices, especially clove, which lingers on the back of your tongue. A bit of a numbing sensation on the tongue, similar to a rye whiskey.
Privateer The Queen's Share Rum
Aged Rum — Massachusettes, USATasted August 22, 2021P168 ABV 54.7 Proof 109.4 Body has some legs. Light to medium. Color is deep amber. Not sure where the red hues are coming from. Nose is vanilla forward with less ethanol than I expected for the proof. Hints of oak and cinnamon. Palette has an oily mouth feel. Light burn on the front which leads way to vanilla, baking spices, oak, and a hint of tobacco. There is a slight saltiness on the edges that mixes with the hint of tobacco to create the taste of smelling leather. Finishes is light with a lingering cinnamon on the back of the throat. A few drops of water really blooms the vanilla.
