Tastes

A phrase keeps jumping distinctly to mind: "pineapple whisky." (Note that that word is whisky, not Scotch.) Mild, perhaps, but getting on to 'thin' (which isn't a tasting note in Distiller). So, I like a 'pineapple' designation - quite a lot, actually - but here it's more of a consolation prize. Disappointed. This is still good, don't get me wrong, very drinkable - but not "Nectar D'Or."

I had this last night but my phone was dead so I couldn't take notes. I mostly remember it being tasty and smooth. So the score is kind of provisional, not really sure, in the 3.75-4.25 range.

Not heavy on whatever the flavor(s) are that make me think "Irish whiskey," but very smooth and palatable nontheless. I think caramel and general fruitiness kind of describe it. I like this!

A fifth of this whisky made its way into my possession - after having been bottled in 1970. It came to me in the cheeseball - but back then, maybe posh? - plastic vanity container. So, it's a 54-yr old bottle of a 6-yr old Seagram's VO. I expect that's unusual. I also expect that it has mellowed the flavor a bit, although apparently this is typically smooth anyway. There's not a whole lot to it, bit it's got flavor and it's very drinkable. I mean, after sitting for 50 yrs.

Really like. I would call this maybe peatey maybe smoky (you know I still don't know the right name for those flavors), but it's very smooth. Flavorful, kind of one-note though - but it's a good note. Really good.

I may not know enough about rye to give this a valid ranking. Spicy but smooth, and I actually get the lingonberries in the nose. Overall quite drinkable but a lot going on, and the astringent finish may be an acquired taste.

Oh, yeah, spicy. Stands up to heavy BBQ. Probably much for casual drinking. But when you need a (flavor) kick, this'll do it.

I would have thought that the bourbon barrel finish would just be mixing metaphors, but it adds a level of body and smokiness that's quite complementary. Glad to have been able to experience this.

It carries its ABV very lightly, as it does most of the Scotch flavoring. Easy to drink and has different Carribean flavors but also somewhat attenuated.
