Russell's Reserve Private Barrel Selection
Bourbon — Lawrenceburg, KY, USA
Reviewed September 19, 2022I decided to do a blind with Russell's 10 year, Wild Turkey Rare Breed and Russell's Reserve Private Selection. I poured all the glasses, let them rest for 20 to 30 minutes mixed the glasses up, closed my eyes mixed them up again. The first glass I picked up... I was like this is Russell's 10, the second glass I picked up I was like I'm pretty sure this is Wild Turkey Rare Breed and the third glass I picked up I was like yeah this is Russell's Private Selection. Lol I've never had such an easy blind. I guess it helps to have the same distiller with a different quality product. RR10 almost has a tangy light cherry and a little smokey nose. Taste is more subdued than the others carmel, ethanol cherry ends in a lighter cherry numb finish. This one has opened up since I bought it last year so I give it 4. Wild Turkey Rb has more of that wild turkey tangy nose we all know, cherry vanilla stronger and fuller than the 10. Taste also has that wild turkey tang but more complex and full bodied. Very smooth carmel and medium cherry. More of a sweet finish and a lighter numb. Very good stuff especially after the RR10. I give it a 4.25. Now we got the Russell's reserve private selection store pick...nose has less of the tang but sweeter and more cherry. Taste is a cherry bomb, super smooth but still strong, less of the Wt tang, good stuff!! This one is the winner with 4.5 but WTRB is no slouch. -

Reviewed September 17, 2022Nose: deep dark fruits, sweet sherry light medicinal Taste: just a nice smooth mouth feel coming into honey plum medicinal sherry bomb. Finishing with a mediumsmooth, numb light leather sherry. I had this again with this year's 19 year release and I had to up the rating. This is a great speyside and I wish I could have bought another. -
Kirkland 19 Year Speyside Single Malt Scotch Sherry Cask Finish
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed September 17, 2022Nose: sherry, plums, medical, honey Taste: tart sweet dark fruits moves into a medium bitter sherry medicinal numb finish. Not a bomb but solid for the price. I had this side by side with the 20 year and even though the 19 stayed in the sherry cask for a few more months the 20 took more sherry, is darker by a couple of shades, smoother and better. What a difference a year makes. 19 is a little sweeter, still solid and I am glad to have both! -
This is a true rye blend. A marriage of different rye styles and would be a great rye for someone to start their rye journey. Nose: rye with baking spice light clove and dill. Taste: very smooth, rye hits with a little plumy dill finshes with a nice spicy numb. I actually had this side by side with a lock 16 which is a bad idea. 16 is just too good, I had to put it down and take a brake to enjoy the vatted again.
