Ok so to be honest I haven’t had a drink in five months. Covid has made things smell not good. I will not at all comment on the nose because it’s not at all correct. It is however a smooth drink with decent mouthfeel. Just a nice step up from traditional makers. I was told by my doctor to keep trying to smell things that are familiar and maybe they will come back. I sure hope so cause having a whiskey collection that you don’t want to drink sucks.

Michter's US*1 Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 15, 2021 (edited October 19, 2021)I’ve always like the Michters bottles. Nose is heavy with caramel and vanilla as a base. It’s enjoyable neat and not at all harsh. Palate is mostly cinnamon and spice to me. There is a good smoothness to it for the price. Finish is fairly short with more baking spices and pepper. Overall it’s a good drink. Cheers -
Glenmorangie Nectar D'or 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed February 15, 2021 (edited February 21, 2021)Just to sweet for me. Nose was plenty and very wine like. Palate seemed thin and was very very sweet. Honey vanilla and fruits. It just hit me to much like a sweet wine. Finish was quick. Cheers -
Glenfiddich 21 Year Reserva Rum Cask Finish
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed February 13, 2021 (edited September 8, 2022)Been on a Glenfiddich kick lately and finally popped this guy open. Very rum like nose. Palate is thin to me for a 21 year. Slight rum influence. Banana and raisins but can’t get over the mouth feel. I think this one needs more proof points. For those who want smooth and no burn with some sweet this is your guy. Not worth the price point in my opinion. That said I’ll still enjoy the bottle. Cheers -
George T. Stagg Bourbon (Fall 2016)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 10, 2021 (edited October 19, 2021)Damn it’s hot. Ethanol kinda overpowers on the nose but if you let it open up there is cherry pie in there with oak. Palate is hot but explodes with flavor. Massive hit of oak with burnt sugar and caramel. It coats the mouth and doesn’t let up. Cinnamon pepper and oak dominate the finish however it sticks around a long time and brings some sweetness back on the end. It is a monster of a bourbon at a ridiculously high proof. The only thing that would make it better would have been a slightly lower proof point. It’s the third Stagg I have had and they have all been amazing. Cheers -
Old Elk Blended Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — (bottled in) Colorado, USA
Reviewed February 10, 2021 (edited March 2, 2021)Ok I have this a three initially but moved to a 3.5 because three is basically trash to me. It’s ok bourbon but I would pull wild turkey 101 or Elijah Craig before this all day everyday. It’s got vanilla and some caramel. Finish is fairly quick. It just isn’t worth the money to me. I bought it for the cork to add to the collection. Cheers -
I.W. Harper 15 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 10, 2021 (edited February 26, 2021)Typical bourbon nose. Smells cheaper than it should for it’s age. Palate seems thin to me. Has sweetness and some oak. The oak seems kinda funky to me though. Maybe a bit sour. The finish is short with pepper and cinnamon but the caramel shows up as well. It’s fine but not great. It’s a cool bottle for the home bar if your into the mad men vibe. Cheers -
