Casamigos Mezcal Joven
Mezcal Joven — Oaxaca , Mexico
Reviewed December 20, 2021 (edited October 9, 2022)Aroma has soft hints of floral notes and agave. The taste has hints citrus, banana, and sweet pepper. Smoke comes through subtly, but in an almost liquid smoke sort of way. Some very soft oak in the background. Very smooth, but could use some more complexity for drinking neat, but could make an interesting substitute for vodka in something like a martini. I like it, but I’m going to need so play around with it’s best uses. -
Larceny Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 19, 2021 (edited December 23, 2021)The nose is a bit soft with slight hints of oak and flowers. The taste is equally soft. Hints of the wheat and oak. The finish has some buried brown sugar notes. Overall the taste is a bit plain, but it is also not offensive and very smooth and easy drinking. If complexity is your goal this isn’t it, but if you want and easy drinking every day bourbon that would also mix well then it’s a good option. -
Dewar's 12 Year The Ancestor (Discontinued)
Blended — Scotland
Reviewed December 17, 2021 (edited September 27, 2022)Pleasant aroma with floral and caramel notes. The caramel is the first note that hits the tongue. A touch of molasses comes through in the background. The oak comes through on the finish. Not particularly complex, but smooth and easy drinking. -
Very light oak color. On the nose, immediately you know this is Tequila. Some sweet honey and floral notes in the background. The honey flavor comes through first. It gives way to a pleasant smoky oak. The finish is mostly oak with that slight but pleasant bitterness it brings. Very smooth with a velvety mouth feel. I’ve been tasting a lot of Bourbon and other whiskey lately, but this reminds me why I love Tequila. A very nice sipping Tequila.

Light amber color, a bit like weak tea. The nose is a little hard to get past the alcohol, but there are some cinnamon notes. It lets you know it’s 101 proof on the first taste. You also get some caramel and pepper notes. The oak comes through on the finish, but overall this is nothing to spectacular. A touch of water really helps to open things up and mute the alcohol. Definitely some brown sugar and cinnamon with a slightly peppery kick. Definitely a mid grade bourbon. Recommend it with a touch of ice to dilute it slightly, or if you want to forget about life as quickly as possible.

Grangestone Highland Single Malt Rum Cask Finish
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed December 14, 2021 (edited July 16, 2024)The color is amber with a touch more red than usual. The rum comes through immediately on the nose. In the background are hints of brown sugar and undistinguishable floral notes. The first taste the brown sugar and hints of cinnamon come through. The molasses pushes it’s way to the forefront. Almost sort of a baked goods vibe. Finish is pleasant leaving the taste of the warm spices in your mouth. A touch of bitterness ther, but not as overwhelming as I have experienced with other Grangestone products. The rum is more subtle than in other Rum cask finishes I’ve tasted, but some of the base flavors that come from more of a spiced rum are there. Feels like a deep winter Scotch. -
Deep amber in color. Aroma is pleasantly fruity with a hint of floral notes. Bites a bit more than I expected, but then hits with some citrus notes, lime most prominent, but without the sour. Some maple in the background with oak just peaking through. The finish is subtle, but the oak pushes its way to the forefront. Solid and drinkable, but not amazing.

Some nice aromatics, although I can’t quite identify everything but maybe some pine. Taste has some slight medicinal qualities, but not in a bad way. The finish is sweeter than expected, but leaves your mouth feeling refreshed. Nice with a touch of club soda. I’m not sure this convert’s me to a Gin guy, but I could see picking up a bottle to enjoy in the summer when you’re looking for something light and different.

Very light yellow in color. Some light apple aroma, but the alcohol overwhelmed it. First test is a soft caramel with a touch of brown sugar. Some apple notes then come through. Finish is very much the apple pie. Alcohol seems pretty prominent for 80 proof. Some slight bitter notes come in late. A touch of water really allows the apple notes to sweeten up even more. Not bad, but definitely a mi grade Scotch.

Elijah Craig Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 8, 2021 (edited December 15, 2021)Light amber color. Aroma is slightly fruity with pear notes with a little sweet vanilla in the background. Sweet caramel hits you at first, then it transitions to a lightly smoky oak. Very nice mouth feel, very smooth. Some peppery notes on the finish. A touch of water is a step down, I actually I preferred it neat. Very nice, I liked it a lot.
