Grangestone Highland Single Malt Sherry Cask Finish
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed December 5, 2021 (edited February 2, 2022)Golden, slightly orange in color. The aroma makes it clear this is a Sherry finish. Other undistinguishable floral and fruity notes come through as well. Starts with sweet apple notes which gives way to a pleasant oaky flavor. The finish adds some slightly pepper notes and a touch of bitterness. A touch of water opens it up slightly and allows the fruity note to play a little more with the oak, but doesn’t really reveal much new. Pleasant, drinkable, but not outstanding. I guess, about what I was expecting. -
Nice deep amber color. Aroma is soft and pleasant. Hints of caramel. First taste is sweet, but the high proof is immediately apparent. As the burn subsidies you taste the oak prominent, but pleasant. The oak loungers long and smooth on the finish. Vanilla, oak, and a touch of smoke are the main taste. Very smooth for 110 proof. Warms the belly nicely. A splash of water dulls the burn, but doesn’t really alter the flavor, just allow you to taste and enjoy. A very good whiskey.

The alcohol comes through very strongly on the nose. Backing away you get slight floral notes. Caramel and vanilla come through strong at the start which gives way to smokiness. The finish is a bit bitter for my taste. The bitterness even grows with time. Solid, drinkable, but I wouldn’t seek it out.

Warm caramel, smoke, and peaty aroma. First taste is smoky and slightly sweet. The smoke and the bitterness both intensify with time. The peat really comes through in the finish leaving you with a warm smoky bitter taste. A touch of water balances things out. A bit more peaty than I prefer but good.
