I was going to wait until I learned more about spirits before I wrote this review but this is such a special Rye whiskey to me that I really wanted to share it. Jack Daniel's Rested Rye is one of the best drinks I have ever tasted but with a small caveat, I do not think it is worth the price listed. I bought this because the bottle looked cool and I needed a Rye to fill out my bar. When I saw this it was $20 and the regular JD Rye was $25 and this had a cool bottle so I took a chance. After tasting this my friends and I went back to the store and bought all that they had. It is hard to describe with the whiskey vocabulary I have now but this is the finest Rye I have ever had. Please forgive the words or phrases I use to describe this because like I said I am very new to this. the nose is wonderful it is sweet and spicey like a homemade dessert about to be served, like real banana pudding with toasted meringue but with something, spicey sprinkled over the top. Or fresh pineapple roasted over charcoal with chili powder sprinkled on it. The charcoal is very soft and is a mere aftertaste but the spicey middle leaves wonderful as the taste in your mouth like during a great meal where the flavors roll one after another. The finish is soft and smooth with lingering spice and some warmth. Now for the bad news, it is not worth the listed price it is not a $60 bottle also if you want BOLD rye then you will not like this. It is subtle and soft and can be washed out with water or ice. It does make a solid Old Fashioned but you can not go heavy on the bitters or the flavor will be off. In my opinion, this could be a little stronger maybe 90 proof but for a sipping drink, this is amazing. While I speak very positively I drink this with a thimble-sized glass to make it go further. My everyday Rye whiskey is either Bulleit Rye or JD Rye they are higher proof and they are everywhere, but if I find this out on a clearance rack I will buy this again and if you find it for around $20 please try it you will be pleasantly surprised.50.0 USD per Bottle

I have had several bottles of this Bourbon and it has grown on me over the course of the last 2 years. I first had this at an Army base in Alabama and it was respectable but I mainly mixed it and drank it at parties. However, when I tried it on the rocks and then neat I realized that for the price it is a really decent to good Bourbon. It does have an opening smell of vanilla and then the feeling in my mouth is a bit warm and the woods come out. It is a good Bourbon it has a little more substance than Evan Williams 1783 but it is also more expensive. I think this is one of the bottles that are in the "wide appeal" it does not have very many highs or lows or this is a very good introductory Bourbon. That is not a bad thing I could buy this at any time and enjoy it, but it is also not what I would pick to sit with friends and talk about things. I do like it and I will continue to drink it and have it in my bar but it is a role player and not a star.22.0 USD per Bottle

I have had this Rum in my bar for a while and drink it on occasion and seeing it has been years since it has been reviewed I thought I would give it a shot. This rum is not a fancy drink that you bring out for special occasions and it is not a flavorless white rum that is only good in daiquiris and for people that don't know any better. It falls in-between. I like rum in general because it mixes so well with fruits and juices and this one does not disappoint me at all. I have made a few drinks like the St Croix Rum Fix and using it as a substitute for Cruzan Dark Rum. But the rum does taste syrupy sweet with maple and sugar as the dominant flavor. For the price, it is very hard to beat and it mixes well with all of the fruits I have used so far. However, neat or on the rocks, it is too sweet for my tastes.15.0 USD per Bottle

The last time I bought a bottle of Hayman's Old Tom Gin I was just getting into gin and I was exploring the vast range of taste and flavors in the gin world. Hayman's has a soft citrus tone to it and it seems to me to be a great hot weather gin. It makes a really good Gimlet and GT but not a very good Martini. When I made a Martini and added any vermouth the gin disappeared. I have a category of gins that I call "Gins for People that do not like Gin". These gins include Hayman's and Aviation Gin. They are light flavors and can be mixed with nearly anything to make a good drink. but they do not have the traditional juniper notes or the herbal hits as well. I do recommend this for a home bar and when I have space I keep a bottle of this or Aviation for my friends that think they do not like any gin what so ever. I prefer either Roku or Drumshanbo Gunpowder Gin and can't recommend either of them highly enough.25.0 USD per Bottle

I opened this bottle a little while ago with my dad and some family friends. I bought my bottle in the low $20s. Of the group, most of us were Bourbon drinkers and one was a Scotch drinker. This Dubliner Irish Whiskey was one whiskey we all mostly liked. I like Bourbons for their full flavors and sweetness and I like Rye for its spiciness I really like this for its sharpness and bolder flavor. I have had several Irish whiskeys and this has the best flavor of the "starter whiskeys" from Ireland namely Bushmills, Jameson, and Tullamore Dew. I don't put Powers in that group as it is a bit more expensive. I normally prefer Dew to any of the others and I have several versions of it in my bar but the flavor of Dubliner was very good to me. In the beginning, it is sharp and fruity especially with ice and the taste lingers in my mouth much as Bourbons do. The taste lingers in my mouth easily between drinks and is pleasant and softening. I really do like this whiskey for sitting around and talking and it pairs well with fruits and cheeses. This is a good choice that is a step above the introductory Irish whiskey group but will not break the bank.22.0 USD per Bottle

David Nicholson Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky (bottled in Missouri), USA
Reviewed March 18, 2020 (edited January 2, 2021)I opened a bottle of this over the weekend with some family and we really enjoyed the taste of this bourbon. It is smooth but not subtle. You know you are drinking bourbon but that being said it is smooth especially when a bit of water or ice is added to it. It has a sharp flavor but it softens very quickly and is similar to Henry McKenna BOB but not quite as full of flavor. We tried 3 other bourbons and this one rated the best, not wheated bourbon. Wheller 107 won the wheated bourbons. It is just under $30 in my area and it is worth a try. I have recently upgraded my score as this bourbon has gotten better since being opened.30.0 USD per Bottle -
I have been working on a bottle of Woodford Reserve and it is a really nice Bourbon for the price. I like the bottle shape since it can go into the narrow spaces of my home bar. I have read many of the reviews of this Bourbon and I agree with many of the views that the flavor of the juice inside is inconsistent. I bought a bottle about 2 years ago and could barely drink it in a mixed drink the charcoal wood flavor was much more than I expected and it was very harsh on the rocks and I ended up giving the bottle away. Recently I saw it on sale and decided to give it another try. This time the charcoal taste was more muted and controlled. I also noticed that the taste was a bit more well rounded. It made a very drinkable Old Fashioned and on the rocks, it was not overly harsh and drinkable. This is a very well-reviewed Bourbon and I will continue to buy it and drink it. However, the flavor profile is not my top choice I prefer David Nicholson Reserve or 1843 or one of the Rye's that I have.30.0 USD per Bottle

Jim Beam Signature Craft 12 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 18, 2020 (edited September 19, 2022)I recently finished a bottle of this liquid and it is very good but not great. I really wanted to like this Bourbon and tried it neat, on the rocks, and in an Old Fashioned and it nice but did not knock my socks off especially for the price. I liked the taste it was not too hot neat and it opened up very nicely on the rocks but it did not have the full rounded flavor of Henry McKenna BiB or David Nicholson Reserve and yes I know they are a higher proof but this Bourbon just tasted thin. Still, it is not a bad drink but it is very close to JB Black or the Repeal Batch but at a higher price. If I find this on sale I would buy it again but at this price point, it is now a pass for me. If you like Jim Beam products then this is going to make you happy but it is just not my glass of Bourbon.42.0 USD per Bottle -
Evan Williams 1783 Bourbon (80 Proof)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 18, 2020 (edited June 21, 2020)Evan Williams 1783 is a really good Bourbon but at a great price. I have had this several times and I am a sucker for sub $20 Bourbon that can be had neat or mixed and not be mad. This Bourbon is so nice for the price and availability. My only real criticism is that the entire flavor profile is thin. The taste changes so quickly that none of the pleasant tastes linger in my mouth but have I mentioned that it is less than $20. I do like this Bourbon and have introduced many of my friends to it.15.0 USD per Bottle -
This is a very good Rye whiskey. It is easy on the nose and smooth in the mouth. I bought this because a friend of mine said I needed a Rye to complete my home bar years ago. When I tried this I was blown away by the smoothness of it. When I made an Old Fashioned it was great. My favorite inexpensive Rye is still Bullet Rye but this one is worth my time and space at my bar.25.0 USD per Bottle
