Tastes

As someone who enjoys a good Scotch, I was a little trepidatious approaching this one. I picked it up because it was inexpensive, and came with collectible glassware (that’s how Jaegermeister keeps ending up in my cabinet). I’m so glad I took the plunge. On my first sip, the first sensation to rush over me was the sea. I could taste the salt air and almost feel the breeze the belies an approaching storm. That characteristic alone will keep this one in my collection. Any spirit, beer, or food that has the power to transport the imbiber, is certainly one that deserves repeat visits.

I do enjoy the standard Knob Creek, as well as the 100 proof version. That said, this one takes that experience up a notch. I normally don’t go for flavored spirits, but this is the exception for me. It has the heart of a solid bourbon, and top flavor that will transport you back to breakfast on your Grandpa’s farm, with stacks of pancakes overflowing with maple syrup. Only problem is, I typically drink this at night, while it prepares my pallet for bacon and eggs. Energetically delicious!

Not as sweet as other bourbons, but it has a pleasant lingering flavor of vanilla and a hint of spice. For me, there’s a bit of fire in the back of the throat. A fine sipping bourbon on a cold winter evening.

I’m drinking on the rocks. It’s not cloyingly sweet, but it does has a delightfully full, smooth character. Great in Manhattans, in an actual Sazerac, or on its own, this beverage will not over-exert itself on your palette. Well-balanced and delicious!

This is the first peated scotch I’ve tasted. Wow! It adds a whole new dimension to scotch. This scotch is full of all kinds of flavor. My brain can’t decipher it yet. I’ll add more after another glass...
