It took about a quarter of the way through this bottle to figure this one out. From very apprehensive to full out enjoyment for this expression. Sweet sour and funny enough Smokey bacon and I’ll admit I got this after reading the description but it’s there. I know it’s not the power of suggestion because I read it before the first dram and I thought they are crazy for writing that. This scotch needs time to reveal itself. So much fun. Good job Ledaig I will replace this one.

What can I say about this expression? It’s Lagavulin in a nut shell. Sweet and sour smoke. It is a must have in anyone’s scotch collection. With every sip the smoke builds on the pallet, so much so it feels like you can chew it. Amazing for a young whisky but I have to hand it to Lagavulin for bottling it at 48 % Laphroaig ten should pay attention to that ( I know they have the cask strength 10 but in Canada I can’t find it ) Lagavulin 8 is everywhere. Well done !!

I was pleasantly surprised at how good this was. I really like what this distillery is doing for a NAS expression bottled at 50% for this price , great job. The 14 year is awesome and this is a great one as well. The nose is milk chocolate with some brine and the taste is full buttery with a twinge of pepper , fruit and bit sour at the end. Great dram.

Arran 14 Year (Old Label)
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed March 21, 2019 (edited September 25, 2019)Half way through this bottle and it’s getting better and better. The taste is softened and has a nice hint of milk chocolate and so does the nose especially when I’m done a dram and I smell the glass when it’s empty. The floral nose is still dominating with some fruit. Just a great whisky. -
Kilkerran 8 Year Cask Strength (56.2% ABV)
Single Malt — Campbeltown , Scotland
Reviewed March 11, 2019 (edited March 24, 2020)Second post for this expression. Really a wonderful whisky this surprises me each time I drink it. Taste butter tart with lemon for anyone contemplating buying this just do it you won’t regret it. Some water does soften it and time in the glass opens it up. -
Kilkerran 8 Year Cask Strength (56.2% ABV)
Single Malt — Campbeltown , Scotland
Reviewed March 10, 2019 (edited September 30, 2021)Wow! I love the kilkerran 12 so I gave this a try and it is now my favourite go to at the moment. Packed with sweet and sour notes oak notes and a bit of spice. Not a beginner whisky but still smooth enough to give to someone wanting to try something more complex. -
Springbank 15 Year
Single Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed March 2, 2019 (edited September 19, 2019)Fantastic! This has a lot going on but somehow for me it’s soft then a hint of spice but then falls into cereal, and slightly burnt caramel I think. There is some fruit notes that I haven’t pinpointed yet. Can’t stop thinking about this expression. Fun and enjoyable dram. Well done Springbank! -
Laphroaig Quarter Cask
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed February 27, 2019 (edited October 14, 2019)This always brings me back to isly whisky. For a young NAS this is amazing. Everything Laphroaig is about is in this bottle. Yes there are Laphroaigs that are more complex, refined , softer and better because of age but if you want to get the taste and feel of the legendary distillery for under 80$ this is a must have and I always have this on hand. -
Bruichladdich Black Art 1992 05.1 Edition 24 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed February 27, 2019Very nice easy to drink whisky. Gets better after letting it sit in the glass for about 20 min. It’s definitely engaging enough to keep going back to but I can find a lot of other expressions for a third of the price that I enjoy just as much. In saying that is is well done and did really enjoy it.
