Kavalan Concertmaster Port Cask Finish Single Malt
Single Malt — Taiwan
Reviewed February 4, 2015 (edited September 21, 2016)Like eating a gelatto while getting your shoes waxed. A great balance of creamy vanilla ice cream and shoe polish; some tea and apples as well. Mouth feels like a canvas painted with luscious vanilla. Sublime. -
Aberlour 16 Year Double Cask Matured
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed January 22, 2015 (edited January 30, 2015)A cool, stony nose is both fruity and spicy (Christmas minced pies), oaky. Even some bready beer notes pop in later. The palate is sweet, fruity, but frankly, a bit underwhelming and lacking in character. The grassy, tannic bite unbalances the fruity flavour. -
Four Roses Limited Edition Single Barrel Bourbon (2014)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 17, 2015 (edited August 12, 2015)The ‘American Beauty’ – it smells of bloody nose and rose leaves; Christmas wine spices and snowflakes. Your tongue is coated with maple syrup and pancakes. And some French canelés. (P.s. I hate bourbon, but that's the only one that I would drink twice.) -
Glenmorangie Lasanta Sherry Cask Finish 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed January 17, 2015Deceivingly, a bit grainy on the nose – some hay, chalk and some Scottish short bread cookies, it knocks you out with its supermodel palate: beeswax, cappuccino and sweet sultanas. -
Lagavulin Distillers Edition
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed January 17, 2015 (edited November 1, 2018)Pinocchio on steroids, singing ‘On the steeel horse I riiide’ by a huge bonfire. It’s where heaven meets hell and they all have a joint party. Sweeter than the original 16 YO, PX is an Islay knockout. -
Glenmorangie Nectar D'or 12 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed January 17, 2015 (edited August 28, 2019)Its nose is a puzzle from cantaloupe melon, cucumber, ice cream and something less charming like tictacs, city pavement, 'Buratino' lemonade and ashes. But it all works. The taste is a homerun of sweetness and sophistication.
