Maker's Mark Private Selection Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 15, 2022 (edited October 29, 2022)Brownie Butter 03061 Nose: Maker's 46. Standard caramel, hint of cherry. Slight ethanol as it's 110 proof. Touch of water brings out the wheat with a ground up oatmeal smell. Mouth: smooth on the front & middle of the palate and a surprising & overwhelming burn as it went down. Stark difference front to back. Little water does little to change this. Finish: Lot of oak/tannin linger. Overall I expected more sweetness from the stave profile with 6 staves of roasted French mendiant & 3 of the seared French cuvèe. Underwhelming for $62. Will be an expensive mixer62.0 USD per BottleJewel-Osco -
Nose: so not bourbon. Fruit cake, baking spice, & dried fruit (prunes). Smells fantastic in the bottle. Opens up in a glass (as expected), but fruit cake is still front & center with a bit more vanilla. A few drops of water and it's baked goods, like a Christmas platter of baked goods! Mmmm Palate: smooth but still feel the 100 proof. Rum finish provides little sweetness, but distinctly different from the nose. Rye spiciness is more apparent. Finish: Medium finish with the whiskey holding on the back. The oak is much more pronounced on the finish. Overall, very unique. Got this at Costco for $79, definitely worth it. Will try it in a Manhattan or Old Fashioned with some cherry or orange bitters.79.0 USD per BottleCostco Wholesale

Barrell Armida
Bourbon — Tennessee (bottled in Kentucky), USA
Reviewed December 31, 2021 (edited December 26, 2022)Nose: caramel, corn undertones. Reminds me of white dog rum straight off the still. Little water & cherry opened up with a tiny bit of brown sugar & the pear appeared. Taste: not nearly as sweet as I expected. I get no rum or brandy (unsophisticated palate?). After a drop of water it got very sweet, loads of caramel. A "baking" kind of sweet... Maybe a little artificial. Long finish, even nasally. Bitter on the back of the tongue. Not unexpectedly a touch of water mellowed it out & really shortened the finish. Loads of caramel notes 10-15 seconds after swallowing. Overall I'm not a big fan. It needs water to really open up the different flavor profiles & take out the ethanol that could overpower the palate. Glad I tried, but not on the short list. Will add some interesting flavors to the infinity bottle.89.99 USD per BottleBinny's Beverage Depot
