Tastes

It may be psychological but I definitely prefer Nikka's offerings to Suntory. That said Yamazaki is a great drink and the benchmark for entry level Japanese whisky. Sweet and tasty making for a perfect highball. Not bad neat and I try to keep a bottle at home.

Very smooth initial taste. I got some maple syrup sweetness in the nose and then vanilla, fruit and chocolate candy before a long sherry finish. Nice for a special occasion. It somehow tastes refined and leaves a very pleasant feeling. The price means I would prefer this as a gift vs buy myself!

Floral barley on the nose. Very warm in the mouth with only a remnant of smoke and a very short finish. Nice whiskey but a bit light for my taste

Harsh and tannic

Curiously bland. Not for me

46% which is a blessing and a curse. Adds to the complexity of flavours below a strong initial banana and Granny Smith apple. But the alcohol simmers and burns for a long finish reminiscent of big red gum. Warming but also a little tart.

Very nice. Smooth nose and creamy, sweet then spicy going down. Lots to explore but for me not as satisfying as green spot

Still drinkable neat, but only if no other brands available

Strangely addictive. Butter popcorn, bourbon carnival.
