Old Forester 100 Proof Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 13, 2020 (edited June 13, 2021)In the nose, this pour begins with a solid butterscotch, vanilla oakiness and some sort of citrusy fruit note, and ground black peppercorn. Upon tasting, the initial flavors are a sweetness, transitioning to pepper spice, caramel, vanilla, a notable salty caramel, more pepper, maybe green with a touch of astringency, then finishing in butterscotch. An excellent value and complex pour. Moderately long length and high proof do not disappoint. A solid go to for an everyday pour. -
Plantation Barbados 5 Year Rum
Aged Rum — Barbados
Reviewed November 13, 2020 (edited August 26, 2021)Immediately upon the pour there is a nice fruity and intense aroma of overripe carmelized pineapple, with some banana, and cane sugar, butterscotch. At taste there is a bit more sweetness than expected from normally dry Barbados rums. The fruity notes persist with pineapple and raw cane sugar developing into a touch of salted caramel mid taste and finishing clean leaving behind the notes of cane sugar and pineapple. Excellent value for a everyday guiltless sipper but can stand up as a mixer at a very attractive pricepoint.17.0 USD per Bottle -
Grass, grain, caramel, and a touch of lemon are in the aroma of this low cost offering from Kirkland. Taste begins with a hint of sweetness and taste of black pepper and salted caramel. Some licorice can pop up from time to time. Finish is short but moderately clean. An easy dram but not much more. Can offer something to the focused taster but can also be a slammed or mixed, although for not much more than the alcohol addition.

Johnnie Walker A Song of Fire
Blended — Scotland
Reviewed November 12, 2020 (edited December 31, 2020)Sweet butter and smoke mix together with a touch of brown sugar and spice in this blend. Upon tasting a subdued smoky ness alongside the salted butterscotch with a touch of chili pepper lasts for a moderate finish. Very well balanced, you can taste and focus on the various aspects without being overpowered by any of the elements. -
Initial pour has complex aroma of overripe pineapple, molasses, caramel, papaya, apple, brown sugar, and banana. Taste immediately is sweet, with caramel and banana flavors, transitions to dark brown sugar, vanilla, and citrus, coconut, roasted marshmallows, and banana. Finished with a burnt tarry barrel. A bit like a pina colada by a campfire. Delicious

Pike Creek 10 Year Rum Barrel Finish
Canadian — Ontario, Canada
Reviewed November 11, 2020 (edited January 12, 2021)Initial pour has me thinking square of a Barbados rum with brown sugar and molasses. Taste brings out more molasses with some interesting changes to vanilla and brown sugar moderate finish. Easy sipper for some change from a baseline Canadian. -

Very strong nose of molasses and burnt sugar, overripe tropical fruit notes, with a few drops of water comes out as a perfect brown sugar with a touch of baking spices. Upon taste an immediate warming from the high ABV and then buttery salted caramel, brown sugar, molasses. Taste decay is moderate to long with brown sugar and molasses dropping off and getting into some pineapple at times and some spice. Late in the glass aromas of molasses and some slight banana mixed with the fruity over ripe pineapple. A nice very slow sipper.
