New England Distilling Tidewalker Straight Bourbon Whiskey
Bourbon — Maine, USA
Reviewed July 5, 2019 (edited July 20, 2019)Grassy on the nose with a hint of cinnamon pastry (churro?) Soft palate Wheaty. Flavor is lemongrass with white tea and a sweet, cinnamon toast crunch finish. Medium to long finish that transitions into a light, green onion spice. An interesting, atypical pour to enjoy neat but not a prototypical bourbon12.0 USD per Bottle -
Willett Family Estate Small Batch Rye 4 Year
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 9, 2019 (edited June 16, 2019)A stunning bottle that tastes far superior than its 4-year age statement and $60 price. A burst of spice upfront (like biting into a cinnamon crisp) quickly makes way to a long, sweet, biscotti finish. Surprisingly smooth and sweet for a rye that almost feels more like a bourbon60.0 USD per Bottle -
Kentucky Owl Confiscated Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed June 7, 2019 (edited August 11, 2019)Straight, middle of the road Bourbon. Tried it next to many other offerings at a tasting and this was not better than some $40 offerings. this is sourced, NAS, sub-100 proof whiskey that would not command more than $35 with any other label. 3/5 but loses half a point for that ridiculous MSRP120.0 USD per Bottle -
Three Chord 12 Year Twelve Bar Reserve Barrel Proof
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed June 3, 2019 (edited December 24, 2020)Surprisingly good. A viscous, rich caramel bomb that is probably worth $60-$65. As someone who prefers a less spicy bourbon, I like this better than ECBP. I haven't had the standard Three Chord, but this is a great barrel proof offering that is perfect at it's 107 proof66.0 USD per Bottle -
Kentucky Owl 11 Year Rye (Batch #1)
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 31, 2019 (edited February 13, 2021)Certainly not worth it's usual $200 shelf price. I was lucky enough to try this at a tasting event with many other quality bourbons. I think if you went into this blind, you would not be as impressed as you otherwise might be by the air of mystique normally around this. It's definitely good, but it shouldn't have the reputation it does.200.0 USD per Bottle -
Woodford Reserve Distillery Series Double Double Oaked Bourbon (Summer 2015)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 31, 2019 (edited November 2, 2019)I am a bit surprised by the expert's review for this because I found my taste of this to be somewhat magical. Experienced at a tasting event, this managed to set itself apart despite a sea of other quality bourbons. I absolutely loved this for it's smooth, subtle chocolate notes, like a dark cacao tea with a hint of brown sugar. I also noticed an interesting chalkiness to the mouthfeel that was quite pleasant. This gets high marks for it's uniqueness, silky texture, and discernable refinement -
The Gifted Horse American Whiskey
Other Whiskey — USA
Reviewed May 31, 2019 (edited November 2, 2019)Definite apple, spice, and wood notes with a touch of heat still, which is surprising at 17 years old. Very good. A bit like a fine wine bourbon hybrid -
Barterhouse 20 Year Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 31, 2019 (edited December 18, 2019)What a perfect, soft bourbon. Admittedly, there is almost no hint of bite anymore, which might be a negative to some. Nonetheless, I found this to be sweet and fruity almost like a bourbon crossed with port or sherry, almost like a hybrid product
