Colonel E.H. Taylor, Jr. Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed May 3, 2019 (edited November 2, 2019)Just fantastic bourbon. Caramel creme brulee richness with a hint of cinnamon spice in the finish. Reminds me a lot of coffee cake. All around delicious55.0 USD per Bottle -
Not a fan. Far too thin for my tastes, and not really interesting. Tastes (and feels) like it's 90 proof. Slightly sweet and fruity, but really lacking in depth. Short finish. You can tell this was rum cask finished, but it doesn't taste like great rum so much as just vanilla forward, sweet, thin rum that affects the overall quality of the bourbon. I would pass on this for the price ($97) or any price north of $55. For the record, I had this immediately after trying Legent and don't know if that affected my palate, but I preferred the much cheaper ($40) Legent97.0 USD per Bottle

Trail's End 8 Year Kentucky Straight Bourbon Finished With Oregon Oak
Bourbon — Kentucky (bottled in Oregon), USA
Reviewed April 22, 2019 (edited October 22, 2021)A let down. Interesting nose. Reminded me at first of Willet Pot Still Reserve, but then picked up peppermint and bubblegum qualities as it opened up with a touch of cinnamon and anise. Really reminds me of of Bazooka Joe gum. Taste was light, but okay. May have been because I tried this after some stronger stuff (like Booker's 2018-4). In any case, there's that Bazooka Joe again. Also, some light herbal notes, wood tannin, and dried fruit (lightly apricot?). Sadly, I consider this a waste of $30-40. IMHO, could have been better spent on or applied towards something substantially better.36.0 USD per Bottle -
Every bit as good as it's reputation, and far exceeding it's value at retail. Unfortunately, it really is a unicorn at retail in some places. Light notes of vanilla, angel food cake, honey, and some type of fruit that reminds me of a cross between apples and peaches. Tried side-by-side with Larceny and this was smoother and sweeter with less burn despite the higher proof35.0 USD per Bottle

Angel's Envy Bourbon Finished in Port Wine Barrels
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 10, 2019 (edited November 2, 2019)SWEET, APPROACHABLE, ENJOYABLE A classic beginner's bourbon with wide appeal - and I don't mean that in a negative way. This is probably the MOST approachable bourbon I've ever had. Smooth, sweet, fruity. the only thing experienced bourbon drinkers might dislike about this is the lack of punch, bite, spice, or kick. I served this with water to many non-bourbon drinkers at a charity tasting event, and this was a favorite amongst the many wine-drinkers in attendance, despite a line-up that included Weller Antique 107, Rare Breed, and McKenna 10 - the latter of which were preferred by more experienced bourbon drinkers52.0 USD per Bottle -

Reviewed April 9, 2019 (edited November 2, 2019)LICORICE BOMB I'm not a star anise fan and this is almost overpoweringly anise and ethanol. Otherwise, smooth and sweet, but I can't get over the licorice taste. just not my flavor
