Templeton Rye 4 Year
Rye — Indiana (bottled in Iowa), USA
Reviewed February 7, 2019 (edited May 6, 2019)Woodsy heat with a sweet and slightly sour finish. This was my first rye and I still rather like it, but as a more experienced drinker, I want more heat and depth. Still nice to have around and it's great for adding to blends or infinity bottles -
Light, floral drink with strong herbal qualities and no burn. Short finish. Some depth, but I was in the mood for something brighter. I didn't get it. This is more of a contemplative whisky. I remember liking this a lot more in the past, but it didn't do it for me tonight. Maybe it was the wrong night to do a review.

Johnnie Walker Blenders' Batch Wine Cask Blend
Blended — Scotland
Reviewed February 4, 2019 (edited November 2, 2019)Other reviews weren't kidding. It smells like nail polish remover. It's not an overpowering burn in the nose, but the similarity to nail polish remover is unmistakable. There are some faint red fruit and berry aromas on the back end or when nosing from a distance. Wow, first sip burned. I think one could use this for industrial cleaning. I was not expecting that. Upon letting it sit open for a while and revisiting, it was infinitely more approachable, but still not good. $20 on sale, marked down from $30. Probably not worth even $20, since I could have used that on something better.20.0 USD per Bottle -
Jack Daniel's Old No. 7
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed February 3, 2019 (edited April 10, 2019)Everyone has had Jack Daniels, but I haven't had this neat in a long time since getting into the Bourbon hobby. Tasting for academic reasons to see how my palate had changed. Overwhelmingly, overbearingly artificial in sweetness and character - artificial butterscotch and/or caramel, like candy corn. No heat. Much smoother than I remember. -
Willett Pot Still Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 3, 2019 (edited February 4, 2019)After two days of this, I've decided it's really growing on me and I really like this. Caveat: for a $50 bottle, I wish there was a longer finish. On the nose, subtly and equal parts smoke, tobacco, and isopropyl alcohol (rubbing alcohol). I also get hints of dark chocolate covered cherries and vanilla. Short finish that is mostly lightly smoky and herbal with a touch of sweetness. By the second day, the rubbing alcohol notes faded a bit50.0 USD per Bottle -
Evan Williams Single Barrel Vintage
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 1, 2019 (edited November 2, 2019)For a $30 bottle, I found this to be excellent. Perhaps my favorite in the sub $30 price range. 2008 bottling. Tasting notes are full of Brown sugar and vanilla in the front switching to cherry then finishing with a medium length finish of red wine. Exceptionally smooth. Nonexistent burn. Silk. Not terribly complex, but thoroughly enjoyable neat. I've had worse for almost double the price. 4/5 compared to all Bourbon, but 4.75/5 compared to other $30 bottles30.0 USD per Bottle -
This has a fresh, pleasant nose. Feel free to breathe deeply - practically no burn. love these aromas- hints of a fresh herbs, honey, nilla wafer, banana pudding. Beautiful honey wine color with great legs. Flavors of pear, something medicinal like cough syrup, honeydew. Medium length finish but one note throughout. Wish there was more depth, but it's really drinkable.
