Interesting, complex and dynamic. Changes in nose and palate as you drink it. Peated? Yes. Overpowering? No. Nose: salty, smoky and with hints of sugar and toffee from the Sherry casks. Palate: smoky and bonfire at first, with a touch of salt and maritime notes. This gives way to what I can describe as chili more than peppery. Long finish and in which the peat gives way to a warm and round mix of sweetness and salt.

Mortlach 16 Year "Distiller's Dram"
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed March 20, 2020 (edited July 18, 2020)A much milder and less impressive nose compared to what it is to come. Hints of Sherry, spice and that signature meaty/sulphuric Mortlach character. In mouth comes in waves. Sweet and oak spiciness/bitterness first. Growing in mouth with a lovely oil character and expanding with layers of spice, depth of toffee and Sherry sweetness. Very long spicy warm and round finish. Solid whisky. -
Nose: interesting, complex and provocative. Oak, grass notes, saline and maritime. Reminds me of Arran 14 in a way as the oloroso Sherry shows up. Water opens it up and makes it more spirit driven and honey to show up. Palate: more saline and peppery than the nose. Liquorice, grassy and citric with a nice round oily mouth feeling. Sherry notes come up front and then fade to give room to the more green notes. Finish: long, peppery and with oak presence. Stays in mouth for a long while and grows. Interesting dram for sure with a better nose than palate.

Glenlivet 18 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed February 9, 2020 (edited April 23, 2020)Nose: Brown sugar, malt notes, caramel, oak and Sherry. Palate: Red apples, oily, again some caramel and oak with some vanilla and delicate bitterness with some spice. Finish: Medium. Spicy and bitter. This will always be remembered as the whisky I had while pondering whether or not to buy a house. The Glenlivet 18 was a nice dram that night and helped buying the house!
