Old Forester 1920 Prohibition Style
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed April 18, 2024 (edited June 17, 2024)CN. While my covid nose is not 100%, my tasters are working pretty well. I can't quite pinpoint all the flavors yet, but I can say that the finish on this is amazing! The finish on this lasts almost 3-4 minutes! I pickup on the nuttiness most with a hint of coffee for a hot second. Allspice and nuts hang out on the backend for a long time which is pleasing! I don't get any ethanol burn in the nostrils and it's pretty easy to swallow. Even at a higher proof, this would be a great bourbon to sip on over an evening or around a campfire for awhile because the finish is so long and pleasing, you're spending a lot of time between sips. Cheers! -
CN. Nose is still somewhat bland but I do pick up some hints of black cherry. Either the nose is toast or I'm getting a cross between Dr. Pepper and Cherry Coke on the nose and first swigs. Taste and finish for me are both heavy on the black cherry, almost like the cherries from ice cream. The first couple tastes the finish was very malty, but about halfway through that transitioned to the pleasing black cherry. The finish on this doesn't last very long either but is pleasing as you work down the glass. Can definitely pick up some of the rye spice on the back end which is very pleasing. This bites a bit harder than I think it should for 100 proof. Cheers!

Here piggy piggy piggy. Today's senses not as exciting as last weeks, but still getting some odd odors. I smelled some concord grapes on my way to work this morning, which was odd seeing as they've all mostly been picked. It wasn't strong, but it was something more than nothing. Also, I pulled in the sweetness of some pineapple I had for lunch and the pepper on my steak at lunch. A little bit of taste today, not much smell, so tonight, I've decided to pull a dram from my Piggy 6 Rye. Nose: Almost a very very faint caramel mixed with vinegar. It doesn't smell sweet, but I really feel a bit of caramel in there. A note on vinegar, I hate it. I absolutely despise the smell of vinegar. However, this is so faint, it's barely noticeable and doesn't bother me as I gear up for a sip. Taste: almond shell, not the nut itself. woodsy on the sides of the tongue. Very smooth and soft on the mouth feel. Finish: Woodsy, 1 day old cut grass, not in a bad way, almost pleasant. Right after the finish, kind of a sassafras And that's all we have for tonight. Cheers For those lost on my reviews, I lost my taste to Covid in Jan 2020 and have recently started to smell and taste things. However, they're not very accurate, but I enjoy the game. I'm joining in and leaving my reviews and modifying them as my taste and smell hopefully return to normal. My reviews will remain pretty neutral until the full buds show up to the party.

I've been waiting for a long time to start tasting and sharing my thoughts. Tonight, I tasted my two hearted ale with dinner. It tasted just as I remember. I did not taste dinner however, nor could I smell my sons crappy diaper. So take my tasting notes with a grain of salt. They are probably the equivalent of someone who's gassed up right before a surgery, but it's what I'm smelling and tasting, so this should be fun. For those wondering, I lost my taste thanks to covid in Jan 2020. Tonight was the first hint of tasting anything spirit wise. This will likely evolve over time as my taste and smell return to what will be the new norm. Tonight, I'm sipping some plain ol' Buffalo Trace while I clean the basement and watch Warm Bodies. Not a pick, nothing special other than it might be the bottle I got directly from the distillery. So without further ado: Nose: Fruit of some sort and a sweet smell up front. Makes me think of a whatchamacallit candy bar. Finish of the nose ends in dirt. Not really bad dirt, but more of a pleasant dirt you might smell when planting in the spring before you dump the manure on. Taste: Slight burn. Almost like cinnamon red hots, but not painful, more the taste. Nuts. Walnuts specifically. And that's about it. Finish: More nuts, but sweeter for a tiny amount of time. Does not last for more than a second or 2, then it's gone. That wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be, however, there's something more than air as it's been for almost 2 years. Hopefully it continues to come back and I can share some of these weird tastes as it evolves back to what it once was.
