Bought at Sam’s Club Color - a beautiful medium-dark amber. Nose - fantastic; wheat, apple Taste - powerful ethanol punch that I should have been ready for. Vanilla and caramel notes are get muted and give way to dark fruits (MARMALADE!), oak, and some leathery bread at the finish. **A splash of water really opens up those vanillas and nutty caramels without sacrificing the oak flavor 3.2528.99 USD per Bottle

Reviewed February 20, 2022 (edited April 5, 2022)Bought at Meijer on Grape. Color: lighter medium amber. Nose: BANANAS! Bananas and Cream, apple, and some cinnamon caramel. Taste: Weird! Banana-chocolate, brown sugar, hints of apple, toffee, vanilla, butterscotch with anise, too. Very smooth and easy to sip - not much ethanol heat. A little bit of cinnamon/rye spice at the finish. High barley content makes its presence known. 51% corn 34% malted barley 15% rye41.99 USD per Bottle -
Horse Soldier Premium Straight Bourbon

Reviewed February 20, 2022 (edited August 6, 2022)Nose- blunted baking spices, caramel, green apple Taste - caramel, vanilla, apple, baking spice, but the vanilla and toffee flavors dominate toward the finish. Neither the nose nor the flavors are strong and off-putting, but not overly enticing, either A note on packaging: the cork is quite brittle and small pieces keep falling in as I progress through the bottle -
Blind taste test - color is a lighter-medium amber. Aroma is pretty bad - very strong and ethanolic with kind of a dish soap musk. Taste is actually a very nice vanilla/buttery butterscotch that fades into a nice spice finish, rounded out by caramel and vanilla notes. Upon reveal, the piney wood notes are quite evident, but overwhelmed by the vanilla and spice.

**add water for best results** Blind taste test - color is a nice medium amber. Aroma is very strong and ethanolic with rye spice. Taste is at first a gentle caramel with a quickly arriving sharp rye spice with some tobacco (?) and herbs at the finish. Upon reveal, the finishing note in question is barley and some of the sweet/nutmeg/dark chocolate notes are there but subtle. All in all a little too much punch and not enough backbone… 2.5 on its own… added a splash of water and a lot of the heat dissipated, giving way to more of the sweeter, maltier flavors. Still only a 2.75 with water added
