Willett Pot Still Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 7, 2019 (edited January 24, 2021)Neat. Butter and wood on the nose. Hint of floral in the background, something nutty there too. Nice syrupy mouth feel with an immediate hit of sugar and sweetness. Sweetness dominates the taste. Almost a charred marshmallow to it. The legs a very nice too. This is good stuff! -
Neat. I deleted my prior reviews. I honestly thought I was going to pour this down the drain. Something rubbed me wrong but a few weeks on the shelf opened this one up. The nose is still lacking. I get overwhelming oak but nothing else. A smooth but watery mouth feel. Immediately sugar and maple syrup hit the pallet. Taste is lots of caramel and vanilla, little pepper hiding in the back. I honestly thought I was pouring this out today and instead poured a second taste. Big lesson learned for me. Let stuff oxidize before final judgement.

Jefferson's Ocean Aged at Sea Voyage 17
Bourbon — USA
Reviewed March 1, 2019 (edited December 10, 2020)Neat. Party Source store pick. Solid but I think I like the Voyage 16 better. Nose is nice but subtle. Vanilla and pepper. Texture is nice and creamy. Not too much flavor on the tongue but the taste has nice waves. Starts out spice forward but transitions to a buttery vanilla and caramel. Transitions back to a spicy long finish. The salty characteristic of the 16 are much more subtle. There is a uniqueness to the 16 that is much more straight forward with this batch. -
Boone County Eighteen33 12 Year (Discontinued)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 28, 2019 (edited June 14, 2019)Neat. Nice nose. Vanilla and floral. Maybe cherry. Fresh oak. Nice creamy mouth feel. Nice sugar and dark fruit on the tongue. Lovely taste and long legs. Strong vanilla. No spice. Complexity I can’t put into words. Just a great sipper by a fire. -
Neat. Lovely nose. Cinnamon and sugar mostly but a hint of floral behind it. High proof hides itself on the nose. Nice creamy texture where the cinnamon and spice rocks the tongue immediately. Get some chocolate flavors initially but the high proof sweeps through and mutes everything for a bit. After taste is fantastic. Lots of vanilla, almost a pie crust taste to it. Big fan. I’ll add water next taste. I feel like the high proof muted quite a bit.

Neat. Surprised by the nose on my second taste. I think this opened up quite a bit with some extra time opened on the shelf. The nose on this is fantastic. Take a nice deep breath and you’ll get a few waves. A surprising amount of sweet fruit at the front, sweet corn, with a hint of smoke on the back end. Texture has a nice creamy feel, but also thins out a bit. The sugar and char on the tongue is interesting. The taste is much darker notes than I was expecting. Vanilla gives way to chocolate and more smokiness. The legs go back to a fruit. It’s approachable and complex. Much different experience than my first taste.

Russell's Reserve Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed February 22, 2019 (edited April 21, 2019)Neat. Hitting me right tonight. Great nose. Sweet corn with vanilla and apricot. Nice oily texture. Get some nice sugar on the tongue. More fruit flavors on the taste, berries and cream. Gives ways to a punch of spice. Cinnamon, pepper. Lingers with a nice long finish. Either this opened up or my taste gravitated towards this, but I am adoring this at the moment. -
Neat. Getting a nice vanilla off the nose. Maybe some cherry. The proof doesn’t hit me at all surprisingly. Mouth feel is very unique. Almost a port wine quality to it. I wouldn’t call it creamy but thick and dense. Flavor is wood, vanilla, dried fruits. Transitions to chocolate and a nice spice. Hangs well on the palate with a numbing vanilla. Smooth sipper.
