Corralejo Reposado Tequila
Tequila Reposado — Guanajuato, Mexico
Reviewed February 6, 2021 (edited August 28, 2021)The smell is incredible; oily, earthy, sweet and slightly savory. Like mushrooms sautéing in duck fat, grilled bamboo shoots, and thick wafts of indescribable heady, buttery muskiness. The taste starts off slightly sweet, fresh, with a little spice and hint of sun-dried golden raisins that twists into a blend of earthy cooking mushrooms, light wisps of smoke, with a drop of herb-infused butter somewhere in the middle that dissapears as the cumulating spices take over then dissipate as everything rewinds and fades away. However, it does leave me wishing that silky, mysterious oil and musk from the aroma was more present in the flavor, and that the finish was a little longer. Still, phenomenal, mouth-watering.35.0 USD per Bottle -
Plantation Original Dark Double Aged Rum
Dark Rum — Multiple Countries
Reviewed August 24, 2019 (edited April 21, 2020)Nose: Sweet, light brown sugar with sweeter tropical, almost kiwi-like banana, and some hogo overtones right away. Underneath that, some pineapple skin and green crown plus fresh grilled pineapple, sweet bourbon and charred oak, and the faintest hint of sweet brandy or sherry barrel. Some licorice and cardamom comes and goes. Not very vapory, and the hogo grows after it sits in the glass a while and a drop of vanilla and coconut shows up. Palate: More light brown sugar and molasses, and a lot more bourbon barrel character with charred oak and good, black tea-like tannins. Fairly sweet, which builds up when I don't take a long time between sips like I usually do, but not too cloying. The weakest part of the experience, but not bad. Finish: Medium-long and slightly vapory, neutral spirit flavor with more tannins, light fresh-cut oak (with a pinch of nutmeg or anise depending on the sip), faint funky pineapple, and a little mint. Overall, a good aged, sipping rum that also happens to be a budget rum. If I included the smell of the empty glass in the rating, I might bump it up to a 4.25 for the great spicy, barrel, and brown sugar-crusted banana bread muffin aromas.18.0 USD per Bottle -
Ordered with a steak and baked potato on a drizzly Sunday afternoon. A little perfumey, nut buttery on the nose. Oaky, warm, soft sweetness, with a dash of cinnamon or nutmeg and a perfumey, almost almond mouthwash-y note. It drops off into a plain, neutral sweet spirit and oak aftertaste with a little more burn and the spice struggling to hold on for very long. A clean, easy to sip on Scotch. A good introduction to Speyside, but not much besides that for me.8.5 USD per Pour
