Michter's US*1 Toasted Barrel Finish Bourbon (2018 Release)
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed December 6, 2018Nice on the nose! Full and cinnamony. Sip 1 & 2: mellow. Good. No distasteful aftertaste. Very, very good. Cinnamon and butterscotch with a profile all it’s own. Easy sipping, like kind of thin and watery, but not in a bad way. Would not hesitate to drink it regularly. -
Dark carmely pinesol on the nose. Sip 1: pure love. I bit prickly on the front, but delivers wonderful mid and rear pallet sweetness. Very, very smooth finish, with a surprising warmth afterwards. Sip 2: Les prickly on the front. A bit fruitier in the middle and some prickle on the back. Sip 3: chewed it and so happy I did. The prickly spice is unusual. I detect no cinnamon or firehots, but rediscovered the pleasant sweetness from sip one. The aftertaste is a little odd. I can’t decide if it’s prunes or green plants. I’m not especially fond of either. Sip 4: I like it. The flavor profile is short at the front and builds to the back. The downside is the odd aftertaste.

12/2/18 advent. Very sweet cinnamon and Carmel on the nose. Picked up some alcohol smell too. An overall pleasant smell, but not as rich as one might hope. Sip one: Sweet on the front. Fruity in the middle. Sort of a charred taste on the back. Pleasant long burn afterwards. More burn than I would expect from less than 100proof. Aftertaste has a slight hint of sherry. Sip 2: things I love: rich carmely coating late mid pallet. Things I don’t like: thin sherry immediately before the Carmel, and late in the aftertaste. Sip 3: identical to sip 2. I feel like pallet entry is almost invisible.
