Laphroaig 10 Year Cask Strength (Batch 10)
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed February 13, 2019 (edited April 6, 2019)On the nose, smoke hits you for sure, but it’s more rounded than the standard 10. The wood notes from the bourbon casks are more apparent as well. Some smooth pear notes are hiding in the very back but are there. On the palate the wood notes and smoke persist, followed by a dusty malt flavor. The Cask Strength means there are some subtle nuances that aren’t there in the 10 and this is clear especially with the wood, malt, and fruity aspects.70.0 USD per Bottle -
Very sharp and sweet on the nose. The smell of sea spray and brine is apparent right of the bat with an accompaniment of smoke. Definitely noticeable sweet wood on the nose as well due to the influence of sherry casks. Some sweetness on the palate that is immediately followed by brine and smoke. Generous finish with more of a kick due to the higher alcohol content. More complex than the 10 with slightly sweeter notes but the classic Ardbeg flavors are still very much present.70.0 USD per Bottle

To me, this is the perfect expression of Scottish Whisky. A great balance of fruit, smoke, and vanilla sweetness from the Sherry casks. Rich flavor of peat, saltwater, and stone fruit. This whisky takes you right to edge of “being too much” but backs off right at the last minute and gives you a warm embrace of smoke, fruit, and the sea. Long, balanced finish gives you time to reflect on the complexity.89.0 USD per Bottle

Lagavulin 9 Year (Game of Thrones-House Lannister)
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed February 11, 2019 (edited January 12, 2021)Flavor of malt persists throughout the nose and palate. Has the nose of a dusty barrel in a damp, cold cellar. The smoke is friendly, much like that of the 16. The mouthfeel is sharper than the 16, however. Still a warm and solid Islay.40.0 USD per Bottle
