Tastes

Nose is powdered sugar, cherry, dried apricots, and watermelon gummy. Very pretty. Doesn't taste as sweet as you'd expect. The apricot brandy barrels really hit you over the head on the palate, followed shortly by rye spice. Finishes with cherries and then raisins. Very good. I want more unique fruit brandies to be used in whiskey and also on its own.

Nose is apple skin, green apple candy, pear, and honey. Taste is more of the same with some spices reminiscent of the goop in apple pie. Barrel notes come across a bit astringent. Some toasty nuts in there. Ends with apple butter. Feels like a cornucopia on a sweater weather fall day while watching the leaves fall. 100% Speyside, nothing crazy but it's done well.

Smells initially of acetone before it turns into red candy apple. That red candy apple hits first before turning peanutty on me. There are intense barrel spices throughout which get pretty dry in the finish. After a bit of time, the sweetness comes back. It's also important to know that despite its low proof, it burns all the way down. If you had told me this was a cheap Tennessee whiskey, I'd have believed you. However, I came in expecting an undrinkable flavor and it most definitely isn't. A pleasant surprise.

Single barrel selected by Brand Liquors. Nose is cherry, prunes, oily barrel spices, dry erase marker, raw untoasted peanuts, violets, bubble gum. That dry dust that is in every single Texas whiskey is also in here. Taste is so sweet. Starts as a pecan pie that burns going down the back of the throat, then turning into old lady perfume, red hard candy, and peanut brittle before the syrupy sweetness dies down and you're left with candied pecans. It then evolves into a Christmas potpourri and finishes as a pine forest. Texture is very thick. It's the set of "Dallas" turned into a whiskey. It's very tasty. It's very burny. Don't drink this with a sore throat. It's intense, too intense to be a comfortable daily drinker, personally.

Nose is pretty. Honey, light smoky peat, almond extract, applesauce, hard candy. On the palate, the smoke is surprisingly forward, but it's still a delicate peated smoke. Underneath the smoke is bright spring flowers that quickly evolve to poached pears and then subsequently disappears. Body is middling. It tastes a little bit hot initially. No off flavors here but a few more years should round out some of the edges.
