Wild Turkey Diamond Anniversary Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 1, 2020 (edited January 2, 2022)This one needed to open up for much longer than expected before I feel like I got what they were going for. All of the lighter notes were hidden at the beginning and all I got was a ton of oak. After about 20 to 30 minutes in the glass, it got worlds better. That’s where I got the notes of the peanut brittle, vanilla and cherry on the nose. The palate was dry throughout and definitely oak forward but not overoaked in my opinion. For some reason this one really makes me want to sit down with my grandpa and talk over a good glass. -
Middle West Spirits Dark Pumpernickel Rye Cask Strength
Rye — Ohio, USA
Reviewed August 31, 2020 (edited October 21, 2022)Spice for days but not a lot of alcohol burn at all. A lot of depth for such a young rye. Very good! -
Woodford Reserve Wheat Whiskey
Wheat Whiskey — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 31, 2020 (edited February 19, 2021)I don’t know about this expert review but I couldn’t disagree more with what they got for notes. I got a pretty straight forward, slightly sweet whiskey and not even a hint of what they mentioned. That being said, they are the expert not me but I’m no slouch either. I’m guessing it is because of the lack of other grains and the high wheat content but it just lacks a lot of depth to me. I’ve had much better “Wheaters” and I am generally a big Woodford fan but this one missed the mark for me. Hopefully the next go around will perform a little better but who knows.36.99 USD per Bottle -
Woodford Reserve Straight Malt
Other Whiskey — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 31, 2020 (edited December 3, 2020)While this is good, I was pretty disappointed with this expression from Woodford. I got the opportunity to try the chocolate malted rye a while back and it was downright delicious. I knew this was a whole different animal but I was hoping to at least get some of the same notes just way more muted. Not the case at all, I couldn’t find any of that chocolatey velvet note I was searching so hard for. Maybe the Master’s Collection spoiled me, not sure but won’t be purchasing another bottle.36.99 USD per BottleStompers Beverage -
Blood Oath Bourbon Pact No. 6
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 27, 2020 (edited December 14, 2020)I will admit on the first sip of the neck pour I was pretty disappointed, it was very smooth but very bland. I got busy and came back to it about 10 minutes later and it dramatically changed. The nose is still a little weak in my opinion but the palate is now delicious and can get the creamy caramel vanilla and oak notes and it is also surprisingly sweet. I didn’t get a lot of the rye spice through any of it which was unexpected but it was astonishingly smooth for the ABV. To me it was the finish where this one stood out, it seemed to linger on forever and I think I got the most flavor notes from that, now picking up on the cherry especially. I’m hoping this bottle only goes on to impress me even more now that it’s sitting open. -
Loads of vanilla on the nose and that continues into the palate with some hints of cherry/ dark fruits and the obviously oak. I am finding some similar characteristics to the Heaven Hill 27 which I am sure is no doubt due to the age. Turns out I am a big oak fan but I’m my opinion this is not over-oaked at all, very tasty. The long finish lingers with sweetness and again the aged oak comes through, amazing pour!!

I get the rye on the nose and a little bit in the finish but surprisingly not a whole lot on the palate. Not was I was expecting especially it being so young but maybe that is why. I’m not sure on the mashbill but maybe it is closer to that 51% rye too, not sure. Either way it is good and drinks very smoothly for the ABV.
