It’s a very good whisky. Youngish spirit, reminds me a lot of the Japanese ones, which are quite young these days. It’s very nice though, spring time, green apples, floral. It’s not the easiest going down but it’s quite satisfying to drink. Reminds me of Deanston 12, but I think I prefer the Deanston because it’s a bit more complex and mature. I will need to go back to it though.49.99 USD per Bottle

Port Charlotte Islay Barley
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed December 22, 2020 (edited September 30, 2021)This is a pretty great version of a heavily peated whisky from Islay. I love the nose, yummy bbq sweet meat and salty savory note, mixed in with peat. It’s like a Smokey bladhoch 10, another favoratire of mine. I love that this peat is more peat than smoke. The taste is quite oily, it’s also smooth. I have to go back to it but I think this is more savory than sweet, and the taste is more smoky than peat. Smooth finish. Next to talisker 10, this smells similar, but I think it’s got more flavor thanks to the higher alcohol content. Need to revisit it sgsin and sign, but for right now, flavor complexity wise it’s not as complex as ardbeg. This can change in the future. -
Cragganmore 12 Year
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed December 21, 2020 (edited March 19, 2021)I want to come back and correct my previous review. Not sure if this just needed to open up. I remember previously I didn’t get much flavor or scent, but this time it’s much different. It has a very clean scent, remind me of Japanese whiskies. It’s got a young vegetal note, a bit savory on top of being somewhat sweet. I get fruits, grass and non-roasted nuts. On the palette it’s quite smooth and it has sweet and savory notes to it. It’s also gotten a smooth finish. Not sour, but delicate and bright. I am glad I gave it another go. Quite a fan now. Ohh yes it’s also a bit Smokey, but very shuttle. This stand on its feet after I had the ardbeg 10. -
This is a really good malt. I have waited for a while to get it, after reading about iodine, medicine, bandaid notes, I wasn’t sure if I will like it. I like mild peat over Smokey typically. Having said that, this did not disappoint. It’s super strong smoke and peat, more smoke than peat, but quite clean and they are buried in a bunch of fruity and sweet notes. These are not necessarily creamy, they are clean and fresh. It’s hard for me to pick up on the nuances of the sweet notes other than fruits like apples and pear, but they are very present and the taste is consistent. Taste is interesting, I think it’s quite fresh like fruit soda, crispy and clean, definitely sweet. The peat is carried over but it’s just intense enough without being like licking ash tray. It ends when you swallow. The sweet note follows you all the way. With time, the smoke is more present, and the grassy salty notes becomes more apparent. It’s an interesting malt that I will come back to for sure.52.28 USD per Bottle

Kurayoshi 8 Year Pure Malt
Blended Malt — Multiple Countries
Reviewed December 18, 2020 (edited March 19, 2021)Lovely Japanese whisky. This is a blend which also contain scotch whiskeys, but it’s finished in white oak, not sure what flavor it has bit the resulting drink is delightful. It’s pretty light on the nose, but it has a lot of flavors going on. Floral, grassy, fresh, and almost a bit medicinal with some nuttiness and a hint of smoke. The flavor is sweet and some tart, but extremely smooth, and very well balanced. The flavor contains the nuttiness that I have detected in other Japanese whiskeys, like un-toasted peanuts, as well as grassy fresh taste. After taste us quite floral, and a medium finish. It’s a very easy to drink whiskey. Lovely.74.89 USD per Bottle -
Glencadam 10 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed December 12, 2020 (edited January 5, 2022)I’m updating my review score to 4.75 because I was able to pick up something more nuanced the second time. There is a specific scent of angel cake, which is present both on the nose and in the taste. It’s really unique and quite lovely. Adding water helps with the opening up of this one quite a bit, the taste is more dementia also with a lovely umami sweet note and it is also very fragrant on the nose. It’s too bad that the 15yr won’t be available... I may go back and get another 10yr before it runs out. -
Glencadam 10 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed December 12, 2020 (edited April 22, 2022)Such pretty nose! Very floral and fruity, fresh type of fruit and floral. It’s hard to pin down on what exactly the flower and fruits are, but I’m thinking white flowers, non-tropical fruits, apple or pear. The taste start with savory then immediately transition to sweet, spirit influence is quite high, but the floral is carried over to the entire taste. Short to medium finish with a bit nuttiness going on mid palate. -
Kaiyō Japanese Mizunara Oak Cask Strength
Blended Malt — Japan
Reviewed December 12, 2020 (edited March 19, 2021)I don’t like this one as much. The nose contain the same irony scent like the blend one. The scent and nose are more complex and the flavor is stronger, but both belong to the same family.
