Dalwhinnie Hand Filled Distillery Exclusive
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed March 23, 2023A stunning single malt thats surprisingly balanced for a cask strength, right from the barrel. If you're visiting the distillery, this is more than a gimick of "exclusivity" to sell some cheap stocks to novice tourists. Also, who doesn't want to hand bottle and sign a tax log (ok so it is ALSO for the tourists, but that's what you are when you visit a distillery). Highly reccomend. If we'd had room in the luggage, I'd have gotten 2 more to savor, it was that good. -
Ardbeg Perpetuum Distillery Release
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed March 22, 2023 (edited March 30, 2023)I received a healthy dram from a good friend who likes to share good whisky. Pretty incredible and a real treat. It's distinctly Ardbeg, but I can't say if it's worth the price because I've no idea what he paid for it or what it's going for. If you like Islay though, certainly don't pass an opportunity to try it. -
I enjoyed this for what it is: a lower tier experiment with rye out of Midleton. It didn't blow me away but it was a satisfying and easy to drink whiskey. As you might suspect, it lacks a traditional American Rye spice and leans into slightly fruity and sweet notes. I probably wouldn't buy a bottle myself, but I'd order it at a bar for a change of pace now and again.5.5 EUR per Pour

Powers John's Lane Release 12 Year
Single Pot Still — Ireland
Reviewed March 22, 2023 (edited March 23, 2023)Just an incredible and unique Irish worth the premium price. Everyone I know who's tried it raved about it. It has some treacle, fudge, earth thing going on you won't really find in another whisk(e)y. Power's hasn't ever been my favorite Irish brand, but John's Lane is a phenomenal exception.10.5 GBP per Pour -
Campbeltown Loch Blended Malt Scotch Whisky
Blended Malt — Campbeltown, Scotland
Reviewed March 22, 2023 (edited May 12, 2023)I really enjoyed this when I had every expectation of hating it. Somehow, this blend of single malts admirably encapsulates the whisky regionof Campbeltown. It certainly has a lot of Springbank, but it's not just a variation of their profile,. Also, this is apprently one bottle the scalpers and resellers fell flat on and lost money from the initial release because it isn't "trendy." I love a story of the secondary market getting a little justice. If you can grab some, this is a great bottle to add some variety to any library, or even just to try at a bar. Don't turn your nose up because it's "a blend," especially when the blend is of such quality single malts.35.0 GBP per Bottle -
Blue Spot 7 Year Cask Strength Single Pot Still
Single Pot Still — Ireland
Reviewed March 22, 2023 (edited March 23, 2023)It took me too long to get a hold of this, but it was sure worth the wait. A great, full bodied Irish with cascading complexity. I prefer it with a drop or two of water to get into some of the fantastic maple notes I detect, but I think almost everyone who likes whisk(e)y will find something great in this bottle. I wouldn't pay over SRP (like nearly every other bottle i own), but I now get the hype surrounding the search for the most elusive of the Spots.85.0 EUR per Bottle -
Weller Special Reserve Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed March 4, 2023 (edited June 16, 2024)For the money, I still think this is one of the best wheated bourbons out there. Sure it's hard to find at SRP, but it's certainly worth it (there's even days I prefer it to the 12 year). The nose has some great complexity, while the profile itself is simple, but soft and tasty nonetheless. At $25, it's still an incredible value despite the new competition it faces for wheated. I'd even pay $40 without much of a second thought given the inflation for almost all whisk(e)y in current times. I can only hope that in 6-8 years we'll see this bottle return to the shelves regularly now that Buffalo Trace has completed it's new still house and can double production on everything in its lineup. Shoutout to Adam who helped me restock a new bottle after I'd been out for some time.25.0 USD per Bottle -
Classic profile and finish(I also get the pear). I wouldn't pay more than SRP, nor would it be high on my list for allocated/harder to find bottles. However, if you don't have to choose, this isn't a bad bottle to have on hand. I'll bet it makes a great old fashioned and at $40ish, you don't have to feel guilty about mixing it.42.0 USD per Bottle

Well, it isn't worth $130. However, it is really tasty and has this awesome sugar cookie thing going on with the nose and profile (yeah, it's crazy). If it was $100 I'd honestly consider restocking it once the bottle is gone, assuming I ever see it again. If you're willing to splurg a little, go ahead and get it. Certainly peaked my interest in their own whiskey possibilities.130.0 USD per Bottle

Garrison Brothers Guadalupe (2022 Release)
Bourbon — Texas, USA
Reviewed February 10, 2023 (edited February 11, 2023)My first sip wasn't nearly as good as I hoped. I reccomend opening the bottle once to get some air, close it and then give it a day (several minutes in the glass wasnt enough apprently). My second try and wow, what a great nose. It really is a dessert in a bottle. Great flavor profile all the way through the finish. Certainly pricy, but it's a flavor I haven't found anywhere else yet so I feel it's worth it. Another win for Garrison Brothers as a premium selection. When this bottle is gone, I'll probably want the next batch.150.0 USD per Bottle
