I liked this so much more than the Talisker Storm. Heavy smoke, iodine, chemical fire smell on the nose but then it opens up to something smooth and pleasant once sipped. After letting the glass breathe for a bit it the worst harshness of the nose dissipates and it simply becomes an easy drinking scotch.

Catoctin Creek Roundstone Rye Distiller's Edition 92 Proof
Rye — Virginia, USA
Reviewed February 19, 2021Fruity, spicy, with strong grain flavors. There's a flavor almost like maraschino cherry. There's a decent amount of burn. Not a ton of brown sugar or vanilla which are normally the first flavors I taste in whiskey, but it is sweet.45.0 USD per Bottle -

Black Button Four Grain Bourbon
Bourbon — New York, USA
Reviewed November 7, 2020 (edited July 6, 2022)I get a lot of grain flavor from this. Standard nose of caramel, oak, alcohol. Less sweet than my usual picks, and rough. Makes a hell of an old fashioned.47.99 USD per Bottle -
Neat, this reminded me of watered-down black velvet or Canadian club. It just tastes bland, watery, with a mouthfeel to match. No standouts in the nose - standard caramel, brown sugar, and grain notes. It works fine as a mixer as long as you're not expecting the whiskey to do heavy lifting. It's fine in a manhattan, adequate in something like a paper plane. In that respect it's like any bottom-shelf whiskey. I got this for free, and I'm glad I did because if I spent money on it I'd be really disappointed with what I got.
