L'Encantada XO Bas-Armagnac (Lot 1.0)
Armagnac — Bas-Armagnac, France
Reviewed September 13, 2020 (edited August 19, 2021)Toffee, brown sugar, caramel on the nose. Smells rich, like a baked good with tons of molasses. Rich mouth feel with spice and almost apple notes. A surprising amount of burn for an XO but it tastes so good who cares?99.0 USD per Bottle -
Christian Brothers Sacred Bond Brandy
American Brandy — California, USA
Reviewed November 8, 2019 (edited October 8, 2020)This reminds me quite a bit of Paul Masson, but with a more heavy alcohol component. Vanilla and spice flavors, with a slightly more muted sweetness than other brandies I've tried. This is really meant for mixing, and wouldn't be my go-to for sipping neat. I like it in a sidecar, though I think in an old fashioned it leaves something to be desired.30.0 USD per Bottle -
Germain Robin Craft Method Brandy
American Brandy — California, USA
Reviewed August 9, 2019 (edited September 2, 2020)Apple, oak, vanilla, stone fruit on the nose. Floral and sweet. Rich and luscious mouthfeel that coats the tongue with caramel or toffee, maybe even figs. There's a note that reminds me almost of a Calvados. Nice and fruity finish that lingers a long time. Notes of... coffee? appear during the finish. This stuff is great neat.47.99 USD per Bottle -
Sweet nose, with hints of vanilla and spice. Quite a bit of alcohol burn and drying from the tannins from the oak. Reminds me almost of a bourbon, which is pretty much what they aim for. I like this mixed more than neat but it is drinkable by itself, though I think it benefits from a little cold water or an ice cube to help soften it a bit.35.0 USD per Bottle

Sweet, sweet, sweet! Brown sugar and molasses dominate, but with a nice vanilla from the aging. Pretty smooth. I wish they hadn't added additional sugar to this because to be frank I don't think it needs the additional sweetness. Perfect for sipping neat or in an old fashioned. Unfortunately a bit one-note, because that sugar swamps it.32.0 USD per Bottle

Didn't quite do it for me. Lilac aroma is strong, and almost soapy to me. Taste not much different. Does a good job in an aviation or water lily, where you've got the creme de violette amping up the floral flavors, but I wouldn't drink this neat and think it won't stand up to stronger flavored cocktails.20.0 USD per Bottle

Clear citrus notes dominate an otherwise classic gin. Not a replacement for a standard dry, but a complement - great in mixed drinks where you can lean on those citrus flavors to add complexity to the cocktail. Try it in a negroni, a gimlet, a water lily, a last word - just be aware that you need to balance the drink accordingly and may need to cut back the cointreau a bit in gin cocktails that feature it.30.0 USD per Bottle
