Catoctin Creek Roundstone Rye Distiller's Edition 92 Proof
Rye — Virginia, USAReviewed February 19, 2021Fruity, spicy, with strong grain flavors. There's a flavor almost like maraschino cherry. There's a decent amount of burn. Not a ton of brown sugar or vanilla which are normally the first flavors I taste in whiskey, but it is sweet.45.0 USD per Bottle
Pierre Ferrand Original Formula 1840 Cognac
Cognac — Grand Champagne, FranceReviewed February 7, 202139.99 USD per Bottle
Peated Single Malt — Islands, ScotlandReviewed February 7, 2021Saline, rubber, smoke. almost reminds me of chlorinated water or iodized salt. If you let it linger a bit, there is a lot of sweetness and richness. Good mouthfeel and no weird lingering flavor but the salt is so strong it makes it hard to tease anything else out.46.0 USD per Bottle
Four Roses Single Barrel Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USAReviewed February 7, 202145.0 USD per Bottle
Black Button Four Grain Bourbon
Bourbon — New York, USAReviewed November 7, 2020I get a lot of grain flavor from this. Standard nose of caramel, oak, alcohol. Less sweet than my usual picks, and rough. Makes a hell of an old fashioned.47.99 USD per Bottle
Black Box Spirits Whiskey 6 Year 80 Proof
Canadian — Canadian, CanadaReviewed November 7, 2020Neat, this reminded me of watered-down black velvet or Canadian club. It just tastes bland, watery, with a mouthfeel to match. No standouts in the nose - standard caramel, brown sugar, and grain notes. It works fine as a mixer as long as you're not expecting the whiskey to do heavy lifting. It's fine in a manhattan, adequate in something like a paper plane. In that respect it's like any bottom-shelf whiskey. I got this for free, and I'm glad I did because if I spent money on it I'd be really disappointed with what I got.
L'Encantada XO Bas-Armagnac
Armagnac — Bas-Armagnac, FranceReviewed September 13, 2020Toffee, brown sugar, caramel on the nose. Smells rich, like a baked good with tons of molasses. Rich mouth feel with spice and almost apple notes. A surprising amount of burn for an XO but it tastes so good who cares?99.0 USD per Bottle
Montanya Exclusiva Rum
Aged Rum — Colorado, USAReviewed November 8, 2019This was great! Lots of complexity and maintains that essential rum characteristic without overwhelming you in sweetness. Lot of flavor packed into this bottle despite the relatively short age statement. I highly recommend giving this one a try neat, it shines on its own.
Montanya Oro Rum
Gold Rum — Colorado, USAReviewed November 8, 2019I thought this was great in a manhattan. Dry, almost like a brandy but with a more vegetal funk that puts me in mind of some Rhum Agricoles - not a surprise considering their distilling process.
Christian Brothers Sacred Bond Brandy
American Brandy — California, USAReviewed November 8, 2019This reminds me quite a bit of Paul Masson, but with a more heavy alcohol component. Vanilla and spice flavors, with a slightly more muted sweetness than other brandies I've tried. This is really meant for mixing, and wouldn't be my go-to for sipping neat. I like it in a sidecar, though I think in an old fashioned it leaves something to be desired.30.0 USD per Bottle
