Woodford Reserve Wheat Whiskey
Wheat Whiskey — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 14, 2020 (edited April 25, 2020)Again going back through my advent calendar samples. Nose is vanilla cake with light cinnamon and allspice. Taste is light caramel, vanilla, a hint of banana cream. Enjoyable, but dialed back. Finish is quick, but leaves you with a banana cream pie hint I dig this, but wish it was bolder and more pronounced. -
Part of the blind advent calendar. Revisiting and using a mix of my notes from blind and now that I know what it is. Nose is light baking spice, eucalyptus, some sweet oak, and light nostril burn. Taste is caramel forward with light baking spices and some floral notes. Medium finish with toasty oaky caramel and some light drying nutiness. Enjoyable.

Color is a rich mahogany, just beautiful. Nose has virtually no burn. Sweet oak, leather, dark chocolate, cinnamon, and baking spice. A fun nose to pick apart as it is deep and inviting. Palate doesn't drink like a 137 proof pour. The heat is there but it slightly hidden beneath caramel, cinnamon, tobacco, Risen Chocolate candies, and oak. Finish is long and strong with a fun lip tingle. Baking spice, vanilla, candied cherries are all mingling and begging you take another sip. This may be my favorite of 2019, but will have to do a blind.

Little Book Chapter 3: The Road Home
Blended American Whiskey — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed November 26, 2019Nose: Maple sugar, cinnamon, sweet oak, brown sugar. Palate: Giant cinnamon, baking spice, and that sweet oak push in. That maple note lingers along with eucalyptus or menthol just barely there. Finish is long and smooth with a slight Kentucky hug. This where cherry cobbler with crunchy caramelized sugars and cinnamon shine. I could nose this whiskey all night. It is a deep and long sipper. While it is pricey it worth all of the pennies. -
Wild Turkey Master's Keep Cornerstone Rye
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 16, 2019 (edited March 6, 2021)Had the first pour a week ago. Now it is time to see how this bottle is. Nose: This is deep and you can honestly get lost in trying to pull out all the nuances. Vanilla, caramel come out first but dark cherries, tobacco, spearmint, and dark crusty bread lie underneath. Palate: A blast of leather, cherries, and oak punch first. Some dark chocolate, pipe tobacco, vanilla and baking spices are worming their way as you chew on this hefty pour. Finish: this pour just keeps kicking - cinnamon, oak, more cherries, just keep hitting. A viscous, chewy, dark, and deep whiskey that begs you to come back. Worth every penny. -
Nose: Comes in with a bit of nose hair scorching heat. Baked bread, cherry wood, and a kiss of spearmint. Palate: Richness is the key here. That baked bread with roasted almonds, homemade applesauce, and a round full baking spice. Finish: This whiskey keeps going with it's finish. The age is noticeable with cinnamon and sweet oak, cigar tobacco, and a touch of leathery dryness. This is a great rye. Buy it!

Old Forester 1910 Old Fine Whisky
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 9, 2019 (edited December 6, 2019)Nose is underripe bananas, sweet oak, light cinnamon and a slight punch of alcohol sting. Palate is creamy banana pudding, walnuts, chocolate, and some astringency. The finish makes you really wish it was longer. It is creamy with a lingering vanilla, but it quickly evaporates and leaves a dry oaky cinnamon behind. I like this a lot, but for the price and because it feels higher proof I would recommend the 1920 or the 100 proof. -
Elijah Craig Barrel Proof Bourbon Batch B519
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 2, 2019 (edited December 5, 2019)Nose is very forward with cinnamon, allspice, dark caramel, and rich oak. Taste is a wash of vanilla, baking spices with bursts of cinnamon. A deep stream of oak and leather are in the back. Finish is long and warming; another place where the cinnamon shines. The cinnamon is rouned with a touch of vanilla. This is a wonderfully rich and deep. Would grab it while you can. -
