Macallan A Night On Earth In Scotland
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed December 8, 2021 (edited January 31, 2022)The proof is incorrect. My bottle is 43%. Nose is rich buttery shortbread, biscuits with honey, apple pie, vanilla pudding Palate is sugar cookies with vanilla, fresh plums, chocolate orange & light spice. The finish is light, but satisfying citrus marmalade on a buttered biscuit -
Knob Creek 12 Year Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 18, 2021 (edited April 1, 2022)Nose - Sweet oak, peanut brittle, an unglazed cinnamon roll that has been sitting around for a day or so because you passed it by for more whiksey. Palate - Pecans and hazelnuts, dang kids siphoned off all the cashews out of the mixed nut tin. The nuttiness leads into Barqs Root beer, imitation vanilla, & Werthers. Finish - Being that it’s got some age it does have some woodsy notes that lie around here. I could see someone saying it has a Bourbon & Coke flavor that lingers -
Watershed Barrel Strength Bourbon Finished in Apple Brandy Barrels (Batch 002)
Bourbon — Ohio, USA
Reviewed November 18, 2021 (edited October 28, 2023)The color is magnificent, deep rich copper. Nose: Apple Cinnamon Cheerios, honeysuckle, toffee, & Red Delicious apples Palate: The 5 grain mashbill kicks in the door at first as it is a bowl of fancy oatmeal. That oatmeal sticks around but thankfully apples, peanuts, caramels, and honey show up late to the party. The sharpness of the barrel proof is upfront and just tingles throughout the sip. Finish: This whiskey shines here. It has a wonderful mouthfeel that hangs out. Apple skins, caramel, baking spice, and the graininess doesn’t show up anymore. Upfront this whiskey isn’t ideal for my taste. Dusty grains dominate but if you swish it around and let it linger it is an interesting and tasty pour. -
Blue Run Kentucky Straight High Rye Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed November 18, 2021 (edited April 13, 2022)We like reviews right? Well tough shit if not, because I really wanted to crack this open. This sexy bottle is the High Rye Bourbon (a favorite of mine as far as the style goes) Nose: Crazy good nose — Yellow cake, stone fruit, vanilla custard, and no sign of ethanol burn. Need this as a candle. Palate: Bright apricots, orange peel, light spearmint, vanilla icing and a touch of baking spice/pepper Finish: Fleeting unfortunately, at the proof point (111) this doesn’t hang around as much as I’d like but it’s probably younger. The apricot/vanilla note is what Irish goodbyes, you just notice those notes walking out the door and smile. Wonderful whiskey. Wouldn’t pay secondary for it. -
The legs on this gal are long, or as I used to say girl has some get-away-sticks. Ahem. Anyway, the smell is strong, think about that time you took a Snickers and drug it through a campfire that the sea spray extinguished on a cool fall day. The opening sip opens your eyes and lays down in your mouth, kicks off its shoes and whispers, “Imma be here a bit”. It is comforting yet bracing, that good friend that is drunk, across the room eyeing you, yet just won’t leave. It’s chocolate, it’s barbecue meat (lamb), it’s earthy, and salty. I hear my inner monologue telling me to “yaaar” like a Pirate. If you enjoy MC Esher, smoked meats, Pirate Metal, and friends that overstay their welcome in leather chairs with cigar smoke swirling about then this is your whisky.

Pours like a viscous Scotch but with a deep dark amber hue that makes you think of rich mahogany and leather bound books. The smell wafts from the glass as you begin the descent of your nose. Sticky pineapple upside down cake, clove, cinnamon, vanilla icing, and leather all jump into your senses and warm your soul. The richness and depth of the nose make you hesitant to sip as you just want to swirl and admire a bit longer. The taste is full, rich and hits everywhere on the palate. It does not dance it lays down like a warm blanket of molasses, cocoa, coconut, and rich vanilla bean. As you sit with it the savory notes burrow in with that leather note from the nose along with tobacco and dark chocolate. The final chapter does not disappoint as the finish hangs like a dense cloud from a fancy pipe. That pineapple note pokes through the aforementioned savory notes and reminds you this is rum and surprisingly not a top shelf Scotch. Bravo. If you ever see Foursquare Rum grab it.

Tamnavulin Double Cask
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed March 15, 2020 (edited January 6, 2022)Fruity, grassy, twinge of smoke there but not peat. This is a nice pour and goes down very easily. -
Compass Box The Peat Monster (Classic Brown Label)
Blended Malt — Scotland
Reviewed March 12, 2020 (edited January 6, 2022)Nose: Bacon, char, Asian pears, slight briney seaweed and toasty cereal. Taste: Cereal notes with smokey bacon and lemon honey tea. Some vanilla and oak lying under that nice smokiness Finish: Hangs around a bit and keeps punching with subdued smokiness and white flesh fruits. Great pour and could get people into Peated whiskys -

Larceny Small Batch Kentucky Straight Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed January 14, 2020 (edited January 6, 2022)More of the advent tastings. The first for were wheaters and this was the one that had an interesting peanut flavor. It was rich and sweet with that honey roasted peanut flavor. Some vanilla too. Pretty one note and the finish/mouthfeel were lacking, but a tasty pour for someone with a sweet tooth.
