Macallan 12 Year Sherry Oak Cask
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed October 3, 2015 (edited May 29, 2016)Sweet and salty, like salted caramel, with chocolate covered cherry and nutty notes. Really good oaky and spicy finish. A great classic, well-rounded scotch. -
Talisker 10 Year
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed September 12, 2015 (edited October 12, 2015)Mild smokey iodine in the nose. Flavor starts off salty, but not briny. Then the smokey, peaty taste kicks in, along with oak and pepper. Mild finish, dry, peaty, and slightly bitter. Adding a few drops of water brings out some floral aromas and a slight sweetness. Definitely a favorite for me. -
This is my first Islay whisky, and it was very different from any Scotch I've had up to this point. In fact I had no idea Scotch could taste like this. All in all, I'm definitely a fan though! In fact, I think it may have made my voice a little deeper and my chest a little more hairy. Lots of band-aid/sharpie in the nose and taste. Very peaty and smoky, like charcoal. Slightly seaweedy and very earthy. A bit like licking the side of a cliff on the ocean. Not much bite or burn. Just barely found the vanilla. Relatively short finish.

Auchentoshan Three Wood
Single Malt — Lowlands, Scotland
Reviewed August 13, 2015 (edited April 24, 2018)A white wine among scotches, very light, sweet, and fruity, like berries. Vanilla and flowers too. Not a very strong finish. Overall a good whisky, especially for springtime, but somewhat lacking in classic scotch masculinity. -
Highland Park 15 Year
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed July 31, 2015 (edited August 5, 2015)I am pretty new and inexperienced at this, but here's what I got. Not super complex, but pretty rich and balanced. Good bit of smoke, fairly salty, with a nice long, warm finish. Sweet, fruity, caramel in the nose. Very enjoyable and one of my favorites so far.
