    A very strange whisky. Smooth, almost oily, yet watery thin at the same time. Very little flavour. Faint wheat, maybe a hint of caramel and very slight rye spice and that’s it. It’s not off putting. There’s just nothing there... $34 in Ontario.

  • Pike Creek 10 Year Rum Barrel Finish

    Smooth with rich caramel, vanilla, oak, soft baking spices and molasses rum funk. Maybe just a little thin but the flavours are quite good. I’ll have to search out the 21 Year Speyside version. A good buy for $40 in Ontario.

    Smooth and light with soft oak, light caramel and a hint of vanilla. Certainly better than the 15 year. It’s good but for the price Gibson’s Venerable has more depth. $80 in Ontario.

    Smooth with a creamy texture but thin on flavour. Light butterscotch, a hint of floral spice and citrus and fresh oak. Forgettable. $28 in Ontario.

    Rich raisin/dark fruit sweetness, baking spices and dry bittersweet dark chocolate, honey, and floral spicy oak (initially and again mid palate) fading to lingering dark fruit and dry grape tannins. Significantly more complex than the VSOP but still spicy, dry and ultimately underwhelming. $116 in Ontario.

    Beautifully smooth and well balanced with velvety soft oak, honey, apple and a hint of sherry and smoke. Clearly great quality but it’s missing richness or stand out character that would truly make it top shelf. It’s definitely worth a try (or two, three...) but I’d never pay for a bottle. $300 in Ontario.

    For being the cheapest scotch I’ve tried so far it’s really not bad. It has a unique depth that does come across like slow baked, gently spiced apples with maybe a tiny hint of smoke. Unfortunately it finishes dry and flat. But hell, it’s $30 a bottle!, in Ontario.

  • Herradura Añejo Tequila

    Significantly richer than the Reposado. Creamy sweet nectarine/peach/pear/roasted agave, oak and slight vanilla. Still a bit spicy but not as overpowering as the Reposado can be. I think I prefer the Reposado's light fruity brightness but I wouldn't turn this down. If only Herradura was stocked in Ontario.

  • Gran Centenario Añejo Tequila

    Creamy, slightly oily taste and texture that mutes the otherwise good flavour of sweet vegetal agave, gentle pepper spice and bright fresh oak. Not nearly as unique and interesting as the Reposado. I can see how it's the brand's lowest rated offering. Not available in Ontario.

    Light sherry, honey, and slight pear, malt, and soft oak. Decent, a little thin and flat. I can see what it’s reaching towards but it doesn’t do it for me. Not available in Ontario.
