Laphroaig Triple Wood
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed November 24, 2014 (edited March 24, 2017)Huge peat, but sweet like cotton candy & fried doughnuts. Sweet red fruit undertones -- strawberry danish. Medium-full bodied with an odd, but not unwelcome vegetal note of celery. Ashes in the finish -- buttered toast (maybe a bit overly toasted). This is what my wife picked up on when she said it tasted almost like mezcal. Very interesting. Not as smooth as the quarter cask, but a welcome addition. -
Balblair 1989 2nd Release
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed November 24, 2014 (edited August 22, 2019)Absolutely glorious nose -- vanilla, apricot, soft lemon...very pretty stuff. Apricots and soft fruits reappear on the palate, with something else rich and extremely satisfying, something like buttered French bread with marmalade. Light to medium body, long silky finish. Very impressive. -
Laphroaig Quarter Cask
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed November 24, 2014 (edited December 31, 2019)Lots of yummy vanilla-sweet peat in the nose, followed by an extraordinarily creamy palate, almost like white chocolate. Lovely to roll around & savor. My favorite Laphroaig. -
Port Charlotte 10 Year First Edition
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed November 24, 2014 (edited January 23, 2016)Huge peat up front -- a savory nose with Bruichladdich's signature vegetal astringency. Orange zest perks up the palate and the peat becomes nearly chewable. An almost edible Scotch!
