Bank Note 5 Year Scotch Whisky
Blended — Scotland
Reviewed September 4, 2021 (edited February 14, 2022)Great value!! Palate is juicy, fruity sweetness. Mixed with a slightly peppery, slightly bitter experience. I’m a peat head so I barely get the wisps of peat smoke. The 43 abv is a decent improvement over the other 40 abv offerings at this price point. This is definitely my daily drinker. It’s no where near a Laphroaig or Ardbeg (I can’t speak for other Scotch categories as I LOVE peated Scotch). Teacher’s Highland Cream, and Shackleton are decent alternatives, but the Bank Note has an extra 3% abv, a more creamy mouth feel, and at $40ish for a 1.75L in my area seals the deal. -
Compass Box The Peat Monster (Classic Brown Label)
Blended Malt — Scotland
Reviewed July 22, 2021 (edited January 6, 2022)To me it’s a slightly sweeter, slightly less briny, slightly more rounded Ardbeg 10. Well worth it depending on how you prefer your peat. -
Third time coming back around to this in a year. This one always surprises me with the simple yet well made base expression. Smoke up front, followed by black pepper, light lemon citrus and light honey/malty sweetness. My only old complaint was that this was too peppery. Recently I started purposely adding extra black pepper to my food. Now I appreciate the tingle of pepper in this whiskey. It’s much better than I remembered (and it was good then), and for the price it’s, in my opinion, the best bang for your buck scotch for those who prefer peated whiskies.55.0 USD per BottleBuford

Very good. The tasting bnotes I get most are sherry(not too sweet, but slightly bitter. Might be mistaking that for oakiness), dark chocolate, and peat. I like it best with a few drops which, for me, changes the dark chocolate bitterness to milk chocolate. It's neck in neck for my favorite sherry/peated Scotch with Frog Triple Wood.

Very good blend of mildly sweet sherry and peat. My favorite sherry/peat Scotch at the moment. Not much of the sooty smoke from the Frog 10 year. As far as comparisons go, I'm not much of a fan of the more pungent/bitter sherry notes found in Lagavulin 16 (blasphemy... I know... I tried my best to make myself like it more. It's good just not in my favs). On the contrary, super sweet sherry (like Wee Beastie) are also good, but not my fav.
