High West A Midwinter Night's Dram Act 10 (All Scenes)
Rye — USA
Reviewed February 4, 2023 (edited October 28, 2023)The nose is sweet, herbal, and minty as you'd expect from MGP's 95/5. It's fairly subdued though. The palate is a garbled mess and the finish is nearly nonexistent. It's not bad, but there's not much going on here and it is entirely forgettable. Take into account the pedigree of Acts 1-3 and the price, this is a spectacular disappointment. It was a bottle split with friends who have been buying since Act 1 and none of us are interested in getting stuck with a full bottle anymore.150.0 USD per Bottle -
Compass Box Flaming Heart (7th Edition)
Blended Malt — Scotland
Reviewed November 18, 2022 (edited February 10, 2024)This is nice. Sweet peat, green apples, pears, a pleasant amount of heat. Laphroaig ashiness, unsurprisingly, wields a pretty heavy hand here. And I think it's funny they dumped Flaming Heart '18, Arcana, and Nectar remnants in there; like they're just cleaning up house. It's very drinkable. That being said, this is a very hard sell for $230. I'm a Compass Box fanboy and if I had a sample beforehand, I would have enjoyed it, but passed on the full bottle. $130? Sure. But all I seem to do these days is complain about price, so maybe that's a me-thing.230.0 USD per Bottle -
Balvenie 16 Year French Oak Pineau Cask Finish

Laphroaig Càirdeas 2022 Warehouse 1
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed August 6, 2022 (edited November 18, 2022)Ashy tires. A fairly standard Laphroaig and pretty unremarkable given some of the more unique Cairdeas' of the past. I'm pretty sure the "more salty" because of Warehouse 1 is the power of suggestion more than anything; and a few people have suggested that the Maker's barrels had a distinctive influence on this, but most Laphroaig is aged in ex-Maker's so it's not unique in that sense either. Not at all bad, but doesn't really seem special enough to make the Cairdeas line--one of the yearly releases I look most forward to.110.0 USD per Bottle -
Thomas H. Handy Sazerac Rye (Fall 2020)
Rye — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 10, 2022 (edited September 5, 2022)Sweet apples & pears. Handy is usually pretty middling for me, but this was a nice year.
