Woodford Reserve Double Oaked
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed July 29, 2020 (edited August 16, 2020)I feel this is overrated. It’s good - but not better for the price point. And definitely not better then the original. If they were the same price - I’d still buy the original. Get the original, WT101, or Blantons for a better thrill. -
Jack Daniel's Old No. 7
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed April 14, 2020 (edited May 9, 2020)The old reliable standby. A- light to med Amber N- light over-ripe banana mixed with salted peanuts, no ethanol burn T- banana heavy banana bread with walnuts, light but clean char F- med length, yeasty and bread like, light banana, low heat and smooth, light oily mouthfeel O- a solid, reliable stand by. Cheap, readily available, and depth if you look for it. But smooth enough if you just want to drink you don’t have to work for it. Every sip doesn’t have to be an investigation. Hell - if it was good enough for Sinatra it was good enough for me. And you. -
A- slightly more then ‘middle of the road’ N- gentle iron whiskey, but I don’t get the standard apple/pear notes. I smell tennis balls. T- standard Irish whiskey with a bit of charcoal taste. It isn’t smoky - but it also isn’t buttery like a Jameson’s. Slightly okay with leftover sherry and bourbon notes - which makes sense since it’s aged in them. M- slightly oily. Coats the mouth but very lightly. Dissipates quickly. O- not my fave. I like whiskey with a bit of a sweeter side - bourbons and the like - and this is getting closer to the scotch side. It’s clearly not scotch - but it’s not soft and buttery like Jameson’s. It reminds me of a flat, bland whiskey. Oaky and taking notes from the barrels - without it really being forward. Don’t think I’ll buy again. I prefer Tullamore or Jameson (regardless how standard it is).

A- light honey, like the first batch of maple syrup. N- very slight ethanol, light Carmel and butterscotch, smoothed out with vanilla notes T- classic bourbon notes, but gentle. Slight bite - due to the rye - but reasonable heat. M- light oily, slightly more than water. Coats the tongue, not the mouth. O- clearly an entry level to the premium levels. Not bargain basement stuff - not by a long shot - but also not in the same caliber as Bookers, Bakers, or Knob Creek - of which this shares the Jim Beam small batch. Very good taste - but I feel like when you’re into the ‘good stuff’ this is just too weak to be the ‘good stuff’. Probably perfect for hipsters wanting to think they’re classy without putting in the work!

Jameson Caskmates Stout Edition
Blended — Ireland
Reviewed December 13, 2019 (edited October 15, 2020)It needs to breathe! Put it in your glass and let it mellow for half an hour before touching it. It’s sharp and not near as smooth as the original. Def has the choco and roasted notes of a stout. Good experiment - but I don’t think I’ll be buying a bottle when this one is done. Stick to the original. -
Baker's Small Batch Bourbon
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 17, 2019 (edited April 20, 2020)This is my absolutely most favorite bourbon. If I was stuck on a desert island, this would be the one I had cases upon cases of! It is heavy, but not too heavy. It has very strong caramel, toffee, cinnamon, and oak flavors, but not enough it will shock you. Just one step below that! It’s a long most feel, but not so long you are still tasting it when you want another sip. To me, this is perfect! For you cigar smokers out there, this pairs nicely with a medium to full body cigar. The flavours do not diminish, nor do they override your stick. Pricey - but to me - worth it! Some think it’s an unnecessary middle step between knob and bookers. To me - this one makes THEM irrelevant. Almost. -
Booker's Bourbon Batch 2018-01 Kathleen's Batch
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed September 17, 2019 (edited April 3, 2020)To be honest, I’m not sure which batch this was. But I loved every second of it! It is very hot, and exceptionally full flavored. My very first sip of the bottle turn it off, but it was because I had never had anything like it. Any chance I can have to get a bottle, I snatch it up. Just had every classic bourbon flavor, but on steroids! Carmel, vanilla, cinnamon, and heat!! I can’t figure out the oiliness of the mouthfeel due to the flavours, but it’s full. Very full. Will clear your nose! And the longest finish I can recall. The only one I like better then this - for a special occasion drink - is Baker’s. And I’m not a JB fanboy - just a bourbon fanboy! -
Stranahan's Colorado Whiskey (Discontinued)
American Single Malt — Colorado, USA
Reviewed September 17, 2019I like the idea of them trying something new - but this was just a mess. Every time I looked at the bottle, I felt like I had to drink it because I paid for it. I would never buy again, or have at a bar. And if I was offered it - I’d ask for just a little. Finishing the bottle was a struggle. Do keep in mind though - I’m not a scotch guy... the smoke turns me off. So I may be biased...
