Tastes

Vanilla, grain, and spice on the nose. Burned sugar then grassy spice, baking spice, heat, with a little fruit sweetness in the mouth. Finish is grassy rye and mint. Medium body, great mixer for classic cocktails. Six years in oak adds to its complexity which emerges with a little ice/water. Retasted Oct 2020: lighter body and less heat than I remembered, more apple flavor, but otherwise the same profile--a solid spicy rye. Was a great mixer when it was cheaper and more readily available in the 1990s-2000s. Now, harder to come by...but still makes a good Sazerac or Manhattan.

MGPI product that is pretty good, but controversy around hiding its point of origin and marketing it as something it wasn't damaged people's taste. Light floral nose, spicy and grassy and light vanilla oak, citrus and mint finish. great to mix.

The old Irish standby, a little medicinal iodine and grain sweetness. Was THE Irish whiskey, but... has been surpassed by so many others. Still, a classic dram and flavor.

Iconic red wax bottle and an underrated bourbon for making cocktails. Smooth sweet carmel corn goodness with a little oak and floral vanilla and touch of spice/mint. It's available in every bar, so you can order a reliable Manhattan or Old Fashioned wherever you roam. Count on it, like a pair of comfortable old shoes.

sweet, needs oak and age. but an interesting sorgham base and product.

Light color and flavor. Floral and grain nose. Thin, sweet grain, then slightly antiseptic up front. Some rye spice comes on in the finish. Short finish. Could definitely improve with more age in oak.
