Bunnahabhain 12 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed July 11, 2020 (edited September 6, 2020)Probably my number one favourite non-peated, affordable, available single malt. Beautiful. Sweet, creamy, full, rich, happy, butterscotch and then just the right amount of spicy warm oaky bitterness. The ABV and no added color. Perfect. -
Gateway to heavily peated magic. Sweet, medicinal, forest. Mild, dark, fisherman's friend, hint of tar, liquorice, seaside, earthy, moss, spruce kind of malt. Too bad the dumb 40% chill-filtered coloured contemporary version available here is just too soft. Still too good to ignore, repeated buy despite low ABV.

Highland Park Cask Strength Edition (Scandinavian Release)
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed May 21, 2020 (edited October 15, 2020)Compared to 12 yo, Ambassador's 10 yo, and Valfather (blind test) this one was the least special, a little too generic and only OK. Still, it is Highland Park and it is really nice. Ended up using it to increase the 12 yo's ABV to about 46, and for that it is superb! -
Tomintoul Peaty Tang
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 13, 2020 (edited September 3, 2022)This is not bad at all. Sweet, tropical fruit malt below a sweet very fresh bonfire smoke. Soft ham, liqurice and dryness at the end. Very fresh, easy and nice. Insanely weak ABV but what to expect in this price range.
