Jack Daniel's Single Barrel Select
Tennessee Whiskey — Tennessee, USA
Reviewed December 4, 2020 (edited September 1, 2024)Jack is Jack, not night and day but Barrel Select is a nicer version of Old No 7. Relatively smooth, round, mellow, deep, nice touch of oak and hint of leather or tobacco, good mouth feel, sweet and calm, more focused, less alcoholic bubble gum than No 7, probably a bit better maturation since barrels are selected from the top floor. Perfect ABV. Not a bang for the buck, but it's nice. The Bottled in Bond version is much of the same, Bond is just a tad more crazy, complex, both round and with sharp edges at the same time, even when watered down to the same level as Barrel Select. Still a nice amount of oak, aftertaste, it sits around for a while. I like both. No need for Old No 7 now.
