Ardbeg Wee Beastie
Peated Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed January 23, 2022 (edited July 14, 2022)HEAVY. Peppery Tequila, smoked meats, BBQ, overripe peach. And that’s just the nose. On the pallet, smoke, leather, light and round. Like being hit with a smoked ham. -
Broken Barrel Reserve Oak Series Finished with Stout Beer Barrel Staves
Bourbon — Kentucky , USA
Reviewed January 10, 2022This has a short, dry finish to it. Slightly dark caramel with a hint of apple juice. A little thin at first. No lasting impression for me though. This will likely drink better meat, I’m typically a one cube guy. The cask strength give it a bit of a kick. This is listed as “Exclusively Selected by Nugget Market” -
Sonoma Distilling Company Cherrywood Rye
Rye — California, USA
Reviewed January 9, 2022 (edited February 7, 2022)Emergency Old Fashioned after saying goodbye to a 13y/o friend (pet). A toast to my little friend. Was given this bottle for my 50th BDay. Was not initially impressed, but as I sip into it more it settles in and gets comfy, regardless of what I want. Just like my little friend. Well worth a try. Makes an excellent Old Fashioned. -
There’s a heavy nuttiness lurking beneath the initial caramel. It needs some time in the glass cozying up to an ice cube to really bring it out. It’s got a heavier flavor and feel than expected and the oak is just in front of the nuttiness on taste, but it doesn’t stick around. The nuttiness clobbers it quickly.Elk Grove
