Aroma is all smoke, so heavy it's sharp. I can barely detect anything else. Flavor is a little much. It's less the fun peat and fire of ardbeg and more ashtray and charcoal. Body is fine, whiskey flavors are good , but the smoke is the wrong flavor. More ash than peat. I never thought I'd find an ardbeg too smoky for me but this flavor just isn't hitting. The Barrel Thief

Deep fruit aroma, mixed with rich wood. Plum or something similar, maybe raisins. Flavor matches perfectly, it's definitely a heavy raisin flavor on top of some oak. Rich, and has that tannin bitterness you'd get from grape skins. Fascinating. The body isn't quite as rich as the flavor but it's still good. Tannins control the tall too. Unique. The Barrel Thief

Booker's Bourbon Batch 2023-01 "Charlie's Batch"
Bourbon — Kentucky, USA
Reviewed August 6, 2023 (edited August 8, 2023)Heavy wood barrel and alcohol on the nose, and a deep caramel sweetness. Flavor is a powerful spice kick followed by so much wood that there's bitter tannin notes in there as well. The usual bourbon caramel and vanilla are there, but way in the backseat. I think the flavor is cool but there isnt enough richness to carry it through this proof, its a bit off balance. Still enjoyable. -
Amador Double Barrel Bourbon Finished in Napa Valley Wine Barrels
Bourbon — Kentucky (Finished and Bottled in California), USA
Reviewed August 6, 2023 (edited August 7, 2023)Definitely smell the red wine on the nose, with a sweetness underneath, something like plum pudding. First thing i notice on the tongue is that the body is razor thin. Same light sweet plum flavor as on the nose, but the flavors themselves are super light. Tastes watered down and airy, might go well with a dessert. -
Woodinville Straight Bourbon Toasted Applewood Staves Finish
Bourbon — Washington, USA
Reviewed July 25, 2023Another one of those licking the inside of a barrel whiskies. Huge wood dominance, poweful and enjoyable. Classic woodinville bourbon flavors lingering underneath, but they just support the star of the show. Medium rich, wouldve loved a touch more.Woodinville Whiskey Co. -
Decadent aroma, light and sweet with wine notes on top of the vanilla and caramel. The flavors mostly hit on the tail, avalanche of tannin and sherry sweetness. One of those cool crescendo whiskies. Some oak and lighter spice. You don't often get this kind of power and flavor from something this age, its fantastic.Woodinville Whiskey Co.

Arran The Robert Burns Single Malt
Single Malt — Islands, Scotland
Reviewed July 23, 2023 (edited August 21, 2024)Flavors are a wonderful balanced blend of sweetness and wood and spice. A little sugar cane, a little stone fruit. So much wood on the tail its almost bitter, approaching herbal and medicinal. Good richness, its like the goldilocks for flavors and richness. Magnificent balance, very enjoyable. The Barrel Thief -
Aroma is rich and fruity, maybe apple or pear mixed with grains. Not quite as rich on the tongue but still respectable, fruity sweetness the main flavor with some light vanilla thrown in. The richness makes it creamy, reminds me of vanilla pudding. Light tingle of some spice on the tail but not a whole lot. Tastes kind of like a speyside, a well done one too.
