Glenlivet 12 Year First Fill
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed November 21, 2020 (edited November 16, 2021)A great step up from the regular 40% abv 12. A more refined scotch for the connoisseur who still enjoys The Glenlivet. Very little fruitiness as compared to the regular 12. Vanilla, caramel with spice like cinnamon and a hint of dark chocolate sweetness; a moderate finish. I find this to have a medium to light mouthfeel. The more I drink, the more I like it. Bottled at a respectable 43.2% abv, this is a class act; an elegant scotch. Okay, The Glenlivet, a mass producer of good single malt scotch for the masses; but that doesn’t mean they can’t produce a better 12yo malt. As a matter of fact, they can and did. Great quality and value for the price, a keeper.45.0 USD per Bottle -
Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban 14 Year
Single Malt — Highlands, Scotland
Reviewed November 19, 2020 (edited January 2, 2024)It’s good to be alive! This is amazing! If you like port, (which really I do) then this you’ll love. The port wine influence is definitely noticeable in the finish. Creamy velvet mouthfeel with flavors of red fruit and marzipan in a sweet caramel vanilla sauce topped with cinnamon and spices drizzled with chocolate.55.0 USD per BottleK&L Wine Merchants -

Lagavulin 16 Year
Single Malt — Islay, Scotland
Reviewed November 17, 2020 (edited November 30, 2020)When I was getting to know single malts, this was way to smoky and peaty for my taste. But know, it’s almost always what I reach for. Unlike other smoky, peated scotch, this is well balanced. The sweet malt and sea brine is delicious; and it’s all enveloped by the smoky peat. Long and lasting finish.100.0 USD per BottleVons -
Factoring in the price along with the overall quality and drinking experience, this is a good buy. I enjoy this more than some 12 years old blends. However this whisky does exude youthful characteristics and should not be compared to any whisky of age (but I do think it’s better than some, just my opinion). Oily mouthfeel but lightly flavored, grainy but malt is there with a youthful sweet spicy/pepperiness. Caramel, light green fruit, cinnamon, orange, vanilla with a little oak. Moderate to short but smooth finish. There are some bad whiskies out there, this isn’t one of them. I think this is enjoyable, but this is such a light whisky, it can act as a neutral base. This has The Macallan in it, so mixing in just a teaspoon or two of The Macallan 12 sherry cask or Lagavulin 16 and wow, really transforms it! Definitely a must have in my liquor cabinet.20.0 USD per BottleBevMo!

Glenfiddich 14 Year Bourbon Barrel Reserve
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed November 14, 2020 (edited October 30, 2021)Revisiting this one because it’s in their redesigned bottle. I remember a lot more apple and pear in the old bottling. This new one has more vanilla and caramel. But it’s probably the same juice and my imagination and palate is what changed. However, Definitely a favorite of mine and it’s sooo delicious. The only Glenfiddich I buy.50.0 USD per BottleVons
