An unusual scotch for an Islay. The nose is sweet with hints of fruit. Nice vanilla and more fruit worh a hint of spice. The finish is mild but it lingers. The mouth feel is boder line creamy. Overall it is a great sipper and will become a staple in my collection. I don’t think it will hold up in a Rusty Nail but maybe in a lighter cocktail.

Not super big on blended Scotch but the this is an exception. Nose is excellent. Hint of ethanol along with fruit and sherry. The palate is very smooth with more fruit, a touch of honey and warming spices. The finish is sweet with raisins and chocolate. The mouth feel is creamy. At $70 it’s the most I would pay but I would buy again depending on how the other Compass Box Scotches fair in my tastings.69.99 USD per BottleMission Wine & Spirits

This is a very young bourbon. Per their website it is aged for 6 months. Not much on the nose or palate and the finish is week. If you are looking gor a summer sipper and dont mind over paying this might be for you. Luckily I received it as a gift. I would pay no more than $20 if i was buying it. It needs more time in ghe barrel to develop it’s character.50.0 USD per Bottle

Initial nose was pure ethanol. Second nosing I picked up dark cherries. The palette was hints of brandy The finish was a definite Kentucky kiss. Added 2 drops of RO water and the the ethanol was replaced with sweetness. The palette came alive with orange and oak. The finish is more oak with a medium length and mild Kentucky kiss. The mouth feel is nice creamy texture.

Glen Fohdry 12 Year Daraich Iapanach Japanese Mizunara Oak Cask Finish
Single Malt — Speyside, Scotland
Reviewed April 10, 2022 (edited December 14, 2023)I bought this to see what the Mizunara oak hype is about. Not bad but don’t plan on repeating it. -
Starting with the Milam & Greene Triple Cask. It’s a blend of their in-house 2 yr and two outsourced barrels that are 3 and 11 years. It’s bottled at 94% abv. The nose is sweet from the corn along with a hint of cinnamon. On the palate the first thing I noticed the viscosity which is a tad thin for me. Then a wonderful sweetness takes over which more than makes up for the thinness along with some vanilla The finish has a hint of candy and a moderate spice. The length of finish is perfect and is on the longer side of medium. Overall it’s a solid dram.

The initial nose was a disappointment along with the first sip. All I got was vanilla. After about 5 minutes I took a second sip and it opened up. Each subsequent taste offered a little more. The finish was a little short for me and the mouth feel did not have the creaminess you would expect from a pot still whisky. Overall it’s not bad but for the price I think you can do better.
